Hi I'm 智子 (Nakamura Tomoko)

I am a housewife from Osaka who loves music. I am a piano teacher. I believe that everyone can feel happiness through music. I am a Mormon.

About Me

Through the influence of parents who loved music, I grew up listening to classical music from a very young age. I also love movies and plays, and through these influences I have become acquainted with a wide variety of music genres, and I always have music playing around me in my daily life. Although I am a piano teacher, through my connections with others I am quickly expanding my horizons, including musicals, choirs, ensembles, music bells, and voice lessons, as well as volunteer work. I am very busy, but it really helps that my family is understanding and cooperative. Through my current work, my hobbies, and volunteering, I am feeling the joy that music brings.

Why I am a Mormon

Though there are many different churches, for me it was The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints that taught me about the love of God and of Jesus and of their existence. I resolved to enter the Lord’s church after personally praying about it for a long time and gaining a strong conviction after I felt a warm feeling in my heart. Through the church’s teaching I have learned about the purposes and the reasons for living, and I have clear answers to these questions. Jesus loves each and every one of us, and sometimes he creates opportunities for our growth by giving us trials. And there are many other teachings as well, such as loving God, loving your neighbor as yourself, being honest with yourself and with others, and being careful about being prideful. I also have many weaknesses, and sometimes I even feel depressed, but I am firm in my resolve to work towards unchanging goals and continuing to learn without giving up.

How I live my faith

Every Sunday my entire family attends church. At church I not only interact with those who are my own age but also with lots of other people. Up to the present I have served in presidencies and as an instructor in classes for children (ages 1~12), for youth (ages 13~17, and for women aged 18 and older, and I am able to use the talents I possess and I am able to increase my talents by directing choirs and musicals, etc. Right now I am teaching the gospel to middle school-aged youth, and during my spare time on weekdays I am involved in practicing with a church chorus group and I also do visiting teaching. In these interactions with lots of people, I find that I am the one who is learning and being taught by them even more than I am teaching them, and I am thankful for that. Through the gospel (i.e., the wonderful teachings of the church) I will continue to cultivate love like the love of Jesus, and I want to continue expressing my joy and my power for living through music.
