Hi I'm Lorri O
I'm a grandmother of 9. I'm a quilter. I'm a hiker. I'm a learner. I'm a Mormon.
Why I am a Mormon
1. The Church teaches that we are co-eternal with God. God is the creator of our bodies but not our intelligence. Our intelligence has always existed just as He has always existed. This means we are free to make choices. We made an informed choice to come to this world to be tested and grow. This also means that what we do is not God’s fault. This teaching helps me to understand why God must allow suffering and has helped me through my suffering in the past. 2. The Church teaches God’s plan of Happiness. We all make mistakes. Mistakes are essential to learning. God has provided a way to clean us from those mistakes. In the eternities all will be made right. This teaching has been such a comfort to me because I have an overdeveloped sense of Justice. With this teaching I can stop worrying about Justice today and wait for everything to play out. 3. The Church teaches about Eve’s wisdom in choosing to eat the fruit in the Garden of Eden. Her choice was actually smart. Her choice brought opposition into our lives. Without bitter we cannot know sweet. Knowing sweet is good. We can’t grow without troubles. The Atonement of Jesus Christ is there to mend what gets broken. I like this because it puts trouble in perspective and helps me to learn and grow from my mistakes and the mistakes of others. 4. The Church has a mission to take Jesus’ plan to all people living and dead by providing the opportunity to hear the message of Jesus Christ and have the temple ordinances offered to them. All people will have the opportunity in this life or the next to choose or reject the message of Jesus. I like how just this is. This is why the church focuses on missionary work and temple work—to offer the opportunity to all who have been born to join in all God has to offer in eternity. It is kind of like God is throwing an after this life party and we want to make sure that everyone is invited! I like that no one is left out because of things that are out of their control.
How I live my faith
I help people in our temple once a week. The Church provides the possibility of eternal families. The power to act in God’s name was restored along with the church. This power is used in the temple to seal family relationships together for eternity. This is a real comfort when death takes a loved one. I believe we will see them again. This is also a big comfort to me because I have lost loved ones. I make my best effort to be honest and kind. The Church strengthens our understanding of the teachings of Jesus. I believe if everyone did their best to apply the teachings of Jesus to their own lives, world peace would be a reality. Jesus’ plan is to change the world by changing each of us. I like this because it gives me a way to make a difference in the world. I can work to be the best person I can be and that is my small way of making the world better. It reminds me of a quote I heard and try to remember to live by. "I am only one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. And because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do the something that I can do. What I can do, I should do. And what I should do, by the grace of God, I will do." Edward Everett Hale
