Hi I'm Alexa
I was born and raised in Utah. I have a wonderful family: 5 brothers and 2 sisters. I enjoy reading, writing, hiking and, most importantly, I enjoy being with people that I love.
Why I am a Mormon
I was born and raised in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I had many experiences in my early life that helped build a foundation for my knowledge of the truthfulness of the gospel, but it wasn't until my late teens that I truly developed a testimony of Jesus Christ and his Atonement. I know that God is my loving Heavenly Father, that his son Jesus Christ lives and sacrificed himself so that we can all return to live with him and with Father again someday. And I know these things because the Holy Ghost has whispered in my heart and in my mind that they are true. I feel good when I serve others and I feel happy when I do the things that I know are right. I have seen the blessings that come from being obedient to Heavenly Father's commandments. I love the Book of Mormon and my testimony of the Savior increases every time that I read it. I know these things and I cannot deny them.
Can you think of a specific challenge in your family that Gospel Principles helped overcome?
When I was 11 years old, we had a crazy rough year as a family. My mom was diagnosed with breast cancer and my brother passed away, both while we were in the process of moving to a different city. While each of these things was difficult, particularly my brother's death, we were able to overcome them as a family. The knowledge that we can be together as a family forever, even after this life is over, was comforting. I know that Heavenly Father loves us and wants us to be happy, and I know that for me, my family makes me the happiest. I am so grateful to have the knowledge of the restored gospel in my life, and I encourage anyone who doesn't have that full knowledge or understanding to talk to the missionaries in your area. They can help!
How I live my faith
I often helped in the young women's programs and activities while I was growing up. After I turned 18, I became a teacher for a group of 4 year old children, who I enjoyed teaching for several months before being called to be a missionary in the Phoenix, Arizona mission, which is what I am currently doing. I've been helping to serve people by doing service projects, teaching them and helping them come closer to Christ.
