Hi I'm Marian
As an "almost" college graduate, I made the decision to move to Texas. I thought all of Texas was flat and treeless. Boy, was I wrong! Seven years later, I've married my sweetheart and embarked on a rewarding teaching career in a very diverse and beautiful state. I absolutely love the outdoors - hiking, biking (although I'm a total novice), and jogging. I love watching my husband take photographs (since I stink at it!). I read LOTS - if I get a good book, you may not see me for several days. Music is my passion - I play and teach piano, direct the choir at church, and I love to sing.
Why I am a Mormon
I was born into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. You could argue that I live this faith out of tradition - my family's involvement in the Church goes back 150 years or so. However, I don't think I would be being honest with myself or others if I lived a certain faith because of familial pressure. I live my faith because I know it to be true. My parents taught me correct principles as a child, which I relied heavily on. As I got older, it was important for me to make my own decisions based on what I knew to be right. That included my membership in this church. Can you imagine being in your 30's and still taking everything your parents say at face value? Neither can I! I have spent my adult life making an effort to know what truth is - God listens to us. He hears and answers prayers. Our quest for truth is His priority, and I have found that to be of great importance to me as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
How I live my faith
How do I live my faith? It's interesting - my faith is not just a Sunday religion. I live it every minute of every day - I try my hardest to "practice what I preach." Here is a snapshot of what that entails: * I direct the choir for our local congregation - that is a cheerleading position, as I try to motive others to attend! * Each fall I assist in the performance of The Messiah in our area - this year I am leading a children's choir. * I have three wonderful ladies who I visit each month in their homes- we check up on each other, deliver spiritual messages, and support each other in whatever ways we can. * I attend church worship every Sunday - I NEED this time to renew my resolve to live by righteous principles, and to remember who I am. * I pray morning and night by myself and with my husband. We read our scriptures together daily. * I am constantly praying that I will make good decisions and that I will be able to help those in need. I especially pray over my job - so that I might do my best to meet the needs of my students. God knows the perfect way to address each child individually in a diverse classroom. * I participate in service projects when they arise - a few weeks ago we went and weeded out rows of peanuts on a peanut farm. Those peanuts will be processed into peanut butter for the needy. Most importantly, I try to be enthusiastic and cheerful about everything I do. I do all of these things, because I love God. I want to be like Him, and I need all the practice I can get!
