Hi I'm Jeff

I am an agricultural scientist who works on controlling crop diseases. I am a father of four great boys. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am happily married to my best friend and the father of four wonderful boys. I have a Ph.D. in Plant Pathology and do research on protecting crops from diseases and pests. I enjoy camping, mountain biking, reading, and anything else that I can do with my family.

Why I am a Mormon

The teachings of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have provided me with great peace throughout my life. There are many different ideologies and viewpoints offering happiness in the world. However, I have found the gospel of Jesus Christ to be the only place that I can find the guidance I need to live my life in a way that provides lasting peace, happiness, and a sense of hope for the future. No matter what happens externally in the world around me, I will always have the anchor of the gospel to help me choose between right and wrong.

How I live my faith

I advise young men in the congregation where I live. I help teach lessons from the scriptures on Sunday and help advise activities on Wednesday evenings. I also visit a couple of families in my area a couple of times a month to see that their needs are being met. I do my best to live the teachings of the Church of Jesus Christ in all I do. If somebody were to observe me during the week, I want them to see that I behave the same way I do Sunday when I am at church.

Mormons believe Jesus Christ is their Savior. Why do we need a Savior?

Each person on the earth truly knows the difference between right and wrong. Some people would argue that morality, or a sense of right and wrong is relative and determined by cultural, social, and political influences. However, I believe that from our youth we can tell if we have done something that is right (in keeping with God's commandments) or not. Everyone does things that are not right. If we are truly honest with ourselves, we know when we choose wrong (sin). The reason we are here on the earth is to gain a body and learn how to use that body in harmony with the laws of God. God made it possible for us to "erase" our mistakes by sending a Savior, Jesus Christ. I can try to do all the good works possible, but those won't make me worthy to return to live with God. My sins will prevent that. But I can become clean because of my Savior Jesus Christ. That is the only way I can erase the wrongs I have done. Show more Show less

What is the Atonement of Jesus Christ? Why was it necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice His life?

Shortly after the Last Supper, Jesus led his disciples to the Mount of Olives. There, He withdrew from them and prayed to our Heavenly Father. In some way that I don’t understand, He suffered the penalty for the sins of all people who have ever lived and will ever live on the earth. He also experienced the pains that we experience in this life through no fault of our own. He would again experience these pains as he hung on the cross. This is called the Atonement. Through the Atonement we can become clean from our sins and also find relief from pain and disappointment that come to many people in this life. I know that as I have made an effort to repent of my sins, I have felt the sweet peace of forgiveness. I have also felt Jesus remove the burdens of anger and feelings of injustice from my heart. I know that I can do nothing to earn my way to heaven. I am grateful that I can find forgiveness for my sins through the Atonement so that I can return to live with God again. I also know that through the Atonement of Jesus Christ all wrongs can be made right. I am so thankful that Jesus Christ, my Savior, would give his life to make it possible for me to return to heaven. Do you really believe there is a prophet like Moses alive today?

I do believe there is a prophet on the earth today. As I read the Bible, I can see how God has called people to act in His name and teach His truths clearly, without confusion. I know that Thomas S. Monson serves in that same capacity today. He is a prophet and my life has been blessed by following the things he teaches. Show more Show less
