Hi I'm Catherine

I'm a mom, I'm a career woman, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a 32 year old mother of 2, a 9 year old son, and a 3 1/2 year old daughter. I have a full time job, and I'm trying to go back to school to finish my degree. My husband is not LDS. I grew up in the LDS church, but then fell away for a time. A few years back I realized something was missing in my life, and came back to the LDS church and am glad I did!

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon, or LDS, because I know that there is more before and after this life. I know that Jesus lives and that we can live with him again some day. I know that we lived in heaven prior to our birth and that we chose to come to earth so that we could return to live with Heavenly Father someday. I know that Joseph Smith was called of God to be a prophet, and that he helped re-establish Christ's church on the earth. The Book of Mormon is the most true scripture we have on this earth. I am grateful to have the gospel in my life, it brings out the best in me and those around me. It's nice to be able to be an example to my children and not do things that are not in harmony with the teachings of the Mormon religion. There is no "do as I say, not as I do" in this church, we practice what we preach. I am truly thankful to be a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I up until just recently taught Sunday School to 7 year olds that were about to turn 8. In our church, we feel that children once they turn 8 are accountable for their actions and then can be baptized members of the LDS church. I help to prepare the children for that as do their families.   My current "calling" or service that I provide in the church is teaching music to all of the children from ages 3-11. It's such a blessing to teach others the gospel through music, which is dear to my heart anyway. The Lord has said a song of the heart is a prayer unto him.

What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

Catherine
The Word of Wisdom was established after Joseph Smith asked of God if tobacco was good for the body. This resulted in a revelation that later became a core belief in our religion that everyone must adhere to in order to obtain a temple recommend and be a member in good standing. It means that we as Latter Day Saints abstain from coffee, tea, alcohol, tobacco, and other harmful drugs. It also states that we should eat healthy grains, and eat meat sparingly. Essentially anything that is not good for our bodies, we should steer clear of. There is quite a bit of controversy as to whether or not Mormons are supposed to use caffeine. This is not something that is specifically banned, but moreso, it is up to the individual. My suggestion would be to pray sincerely to Heavenly Father and find out what specifically applies to you. During my time away from the church, I smoked and drank, and must say that I never felt good when I partook of those things. Now that I adhere to the Word of Wisdom, I feel wonderful, spiritually and physically. Show more Show less
