Hi I'm Laura

My husband Alan & I are happily married, living in the great state of Montana. We love our little family. We are mormon.

About Me

I love food and am a dietitian by trade. My husband loves teeth and is now a dentist - we met in Maryland and our first date we talked all about diabetes. Nerdy - we know, but it's a lot of fun too. We both grew up in Montana, went to Brigham Young University and then moved back east to Maryland for further education. We met back east through a friend and decided to come back to Montana to raise our little family. I am currently involved in Nutrition Action of Kids and play the viola in our local symphony. My husband is an avid flyfisherman and is involved with the local dental association.

Why I am a Mormon

My husband and I were both raised in the LDS faith. Our parents were members and taught us the gospel of Christ in our homes. There comes a point in everyone's life that one must choose what they believe and how they want to live their life. This happened for both my husband and I individually when we were in High School. Speaking for myself...I remember having questions about my moral values in high school. What friends should I spend time with and what dreams did I want to pursue? Sometimes I was frustrated that I was so young and had to make these life altering decisions on my own. This is when I turned in prayer to my Heavenly Father. I learned when I was a teenager that Heavenly Father heard and still hears my prayers. That He cares for me and provided people, scriptures and opportunities in my life to help me in my critical decisions in my life. Because I know that God hears my prayers I have felt a witness through the Spirit that He lives. His Son, Jesus Christ is my Savior and that His true church has been restored to the earth through the prophet Joseph Smith. Because God hears my prayers he has given the earth a prophet today, who speaks for Him and can guide me in my life. Following the counsel of the prophet has allowed me to remain happy through transitional times in my life. Because God hears my prayers He has provided scriptures that I can read each day that allow me to hear his word. The Book of Mormon is another testiment of Jesus Christ. It verifies and confirms the doctrines taught in the Bible - that Jesus is in deed the Christ and that by Him and through Him all men and women can be saved. Because God hears my prayers He has provided holy temples where we can enter into covenants - or promises - with God about how I live my life so that I can be with my family forever. This church is true. I know this because the Spirit has touched my heart and told me so. I'm a better person because of the church in my life.

How I live my faith

Being a dietitian I have always believed you must practice what you preach. I have tried to do this in my daily living. My husband and I are both involved with the church and it's influence in the community. I currently work with our local women's organization to do charitable acts of service for our community. We also organize events and classes that help the women strengthen their families and homes and increase their faith in Jesus Christ. I have been amazed that as I have worked with women of all ages how much we have in common when we are working together to bless our families and our community. I have loved being able to have someone come to my mind and visit them or call them and feel like I have been able to help the Lord perhaps answer a prayer of someone else. My husband, Alan, helps the bishop of our ward with his responsibilities. He primary helps with the youth by interviewing them every 6 months to see how they are doing in their personal lives, faith in christ, school work and so forth. He is also able to visit with various families in our church to see if they need anything temporally or spiritually at that time. Our family feels incredibly blessed to be part of the LDS community as it helps us to better reach out to the community in which we live. It has provided us friends when we were new and allowed us to acclimate where ever we have lived much quicker than if we did not have the church. My life is blessed each day because I live my faith and the principles taught.

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Laura
I hear this question all the time! As a mormon - I do not worship Joseph Smith. I am grateful for his prophetic teachings and his marvelous first vision. Joseph Smith saw God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ. We worship God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ. Joseph Smith was merely an instrument is restoring lost truths back to the earth, in restoring Christ's priesthood, in translating the Book of Mormon and in restoring the fact that God still speaks today through a prophet.
