Hi I'm Jeff Hogge

I'm a family man. I'm an attorney and writer. And I desire to serve the Lord. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

For work, I am an attorney. I am blessed to enjoy my work and the people I work with. For fun, I spend time with my family, study the doctrines of the gospel, and write. My family members and my closest friends are my support and anchor in dealing with the challenges of the world. My wife of more than 30 years and I have six children and an increasing number of grandchildren. We love them all and find some of our greatest joy in being with them and watching them live faithful and fruitful lives. I enjoy immersing myself in the scriptures and the teachings of modern-day prophets. Every day, I seek the guidance of the Lord by praying and studying. The Book of Mormon is my favorite book of scripture because of its purity and strength, so I study it every day. But I also include study of the Bible and other inspired sources as I endeavor to know the Lord. I call myself a writer. I write at work, but my favorite writing occurs after hours when I write about the gospel and other topics of interest. Usually, I inflict my recreational writing only on my family, but a publisher saw fit to publish a biography I wrote about a man who was an officer in the American Civil War, an aide to Abraham Lincoln, and, later, a judge on the court where I have worked for many years. Most importantly, though, I am a child of God. It is the core of who I am, and remembering that fact keeps me on the right path. I desire to serve him with all my heart by serving my family and my fellowmen.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born and raised Mormon, but it has been my privilege to personally experience conversion to the gospel of Jesus Christ. That has come mostly in the quiet moments of study and prayer, but it has also come as I have listened to modern-day prophets and others preach the gospel and as I have put into practice the saving principles I have been taught. Always, my conversion has come because of the influence of the Holy Ghost, giving me peace, assurance, and clarity. I am a Mormon because I believe in God the Father as my literal Father in Heaven; I believe in Jesus Christ as the Savior of the world through whom we receive immortality and may receive eternal life; I believe in the life-changing influence of the Holy Ghost as a testifier of the truth and sanctifier of the soul; and I believe that these saving truths have been restored to the earth through Joseph Smith. I have been blessed with a believing heart, and I have witnessed the fruits of acting on that belief. Truly, I attribute everything good in my life -- my happy marriage, my wonderful family, my brothers and sisters in the gospel, my friends and associates, and life itself -- to the hand of the Lord as I have done my best to obey Him. Every effort I make to be a more faithful follower and servant of the Lord is met with blessings beyond even my desires. I am a Mormon because I have found the way to eternal life, and that way is in the covenants we make with God administered through the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. All of this is made possible by the Atonement of Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

Jesus Christ and His gospel are the center of my life. I intend to live the gospel continually, which I know is approachable only through the enabling power of the Atonement of Jesus Christ. When I fall short, which we all do at times and I certainly do, I rely on the redeeming power of the Atonement to set me straight and help me carry on. Several habits have helped my family and me immensely in this pursuit: regular family and personal prayer; regular family and personal study of the scriptures, including the Bible and the Book of Mormon; weekly attendance at church meetings to renew our covenants; and constant efforts to make adjustments in our lives to become more like our Savior. I have been blessed with many opportunities to serve in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I was raised in a family that reached out to others to help them understand the blessing of the gospel. I served as a missionary in Italy for two years, dedicating all of my time to preaching the gospel. I have served as a bishop, a teacher of youth and adults, and a servant called to go into the homes of members of the church and others and assist them in understanding the gospel and dealing with all the challenges that life brings. Currently, I serve as a stake president. A stake is an organization consisting of several congregations, and it is my duty and privilege to oversee the congregations and minister to the members of the congregations. Most of all, I live my faith by making and honoring sacred covenants with God -- like baptism, priesthood, marriage, and the blessings of the temple -- as well as sharing with others the opportunity to also make and honor sacred covenants with God. "Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ." (Ephesians 4:13.)
