Hi I'm Thomas

I am in nursing school. I am training to do triathlons. I love the outdoors, politics, and philosophy. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am from Idaho. I am 23 years old. I am currently attending college and am majoring in Philosophy with an emphasis in Law. I am planning on going to Law School in a couple of years. I might minor in something like music or speech. My hobbies are music i like to play the guitar and camping. I like nontraditional sports like men's softball, ultimate Frisbee, rock climbing, and volleyball. I played football and tennis in High School, and also sang in a show choir. I also enjoy boats and motorcycles and four-wheelers. I work as a Physical Therapist Aide and as a Landscaper.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a Mormon family. My parents are both members, and many of my extended family are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. But even though my family are members, I still came to a point in my life when I needed to know for myself if I wanted to live the life of a Mormon. I guess I always knew in my heart that my parent's faith was a good faith, but I needed to know for myself this faith was truly the Christ's church upon the earth. I then immersed myself in Mormon literature like The Book of Mormon, Preach my Gospel, and The History of Joseph Smith. Through study and prayer I came to know that not only was this church a good church, but that it truly was God's church, restored to the earth in our time. The doctrine made sense, the prophecies were being fulfilled, and the Spirit of God was being poured out upon me as a witness of the truth of this church.

How I live my faith

I serve, or volunteer, as the Institute of Religion Council President. It is located on my university's campus. The Institute of Religion is an educational facility which teaches about the Old and New Testament, The Book of Mormon, The Doctrine and Covenants, and The Pearl of Great Price. Other classes are also offered which teach morality and other gospel principles to the youth and young adults. Enrollment is free to the public. Most of the students are young adults, between the ages of 18 and 30.

What is the Law of Chastity?

Thomas
The Law of Chastity is a commandment from God concerning morality. The commandment tells us what to avoid and why. These practices include abstaining from premarital sex, adultery, and pornography in any form. Although many may see this commandment as outdated and socially unacceptable, we believe that many problems arise from breaking this commandment. Too many families are torn apart and children are ruined because of a lack of morality in parents. Too many crimes have resulted as a consequence of pornography. And too many children are being raised in homes with no father or mother present. If followed, this commandment would bless the entire world. Show more Show less

Is it true that Jesus appeared in North America after his crucifixion and resurrection according to the Book of Mormon?

Thomas
It is true that Christ appeared in North America after His resurrection. It is recorded in the Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ. God is the God and Creator of the whole earth, and not only the God of Israel. He has many "sheep" or children whom He loves. Show more Show less

Are Mormons Christians?

Thomas
Mormons are Christians. We firmly believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. Some say that we worship Joseph Smith or other prophets instead of Christ. We believe that Joseph Smith and other prophets were called of God to testify of Christ, and we do not worship Joseph Smith or any other prophet. I can see how some would be mislead because we put such an emphasis on prophets, but Christ and His Atonement are central to our doctrine and beliefs. Show more Show less

How can we stop the spread and influence of pornography?

Thomas
First we must realize what pornography is. Any time we see an image and we are aroused (having thoughts which alter our feelings towards our spouse, our children, or anyone else in a negative and adulterous way), then that is pornography. In our culture today, this would include a vast majority of media including magazines, television, and even the way we dress. Then we must begin by guarding ourselves and our families. Talk openly about the dangers of pornography. Keep TV's and computers in open places, and dispose of media (DVD's, magazines, etc.) which may be pornographic. Show more Show less

What is the Church's position on abortion?

Thomas
We believe that we are sons and daughters of our Heavenly Father. We also believe that our existence did not begin here on Earth, nor will it end with death. Before we came to Earth we lived with Heavenly Father in heaven as spirits (without physical bodies). We come here to earth to gain a body and to learn, that is a part of the plan God has for His children. Abortion frustrates that plan because those spirit children will not have a chance to live here on earth and impact many people for good through their choices. I always wonder: "if someone historically important like Abraham Lincoln or Winston Churchill had been a victim of abortion, how would that have affected the entire world?" Show more Show less
