Hi I'm Koki

I was born in the Chicago area and moved around a lot growing up. I'm a gang prevention worker and I'm a mormon.

About Me

I'm a husband and a father of three, young, active boys. My wife and I recently got into taking our kids out on bike rides. It's funny cause there was a time that I lived for the weekend, going out dancing and just hanging out with friends. I would have never thought the highlight of my day would be coming home from work to play with the kids and just be home with the family. I love my job working with youth in the schools helping them get out and stay away from gangs. I still love to play basketball and play whenever I can.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was about 13 years old I picked up a Book of Mormon and for the first time read from it with no one else around. My parents were both Mormon and I had always gone to church with them, but I had never questioned if it was all true. I felt peaceful when I read from the Book of Mormon over the next few months. I read about Jesus visiting the Americas and other stories about prophets teaching about Jesus Christ. I prayed about it and asked God if what I was reading was true. I felt peace and almost 20 years later I feel that same peace today as I keep learning about my Savior. I'm happy to know that there is a purpose for life and that because of Jesus Christ, I can be forgiven for my mistakes and sins and I can live with my family and loved ones in heaven after I die.

How I live my faith

I take my family to church every Sunday. We study about Jesus and about God in the scriptures. I visit other people in our congregation and neighborhood at their houses and we talk about our beliefs of Jesus and his teachings. I try to help them out with things from time to time like mowing the lawn or helping with a project. My wife and I go to Temples and learn more about God and what He has planned for us here on Earth. I also help plan activities like camp outs for youth and families, BBQs, and service projects.

How do I become a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon Church)?

You learn more about the Church by reading about it, talking with the missionaries or other members of the Church. It would be good to attend Church meetings close to you. Pray to God and ask if it is true. If you feel that peace that comes after your preparation and studying if the Church is true you can be baptized. Show more Show less
