Why are only some Mormons allowed into temples? Is there something secret going on in Mormon Temples? What goes on in Mormon Temples?

Gregory Michael
The Temples of the church are considered by members to be the most sacred places on earth. Entrance is given only to members of the church who have meet standards established for entry and who have been avouched for by their local church leaders. Due to the sacred nature of the temple Mormons do not, as a rule, discuss it in detail outside of that setting. In general the temple experience is one of instruction as to the nature of God and our relationship with him by means of an allegorical presentation which in modern temples is presented in the form of an interactive motion picture. Attending the temple involves receiving the instructions from this presentation as well as making promises to obey the commandments of God and to believe and accept Christ as our saviour. This is all done in a setting of a sacred space where, to some degree, we are removed from outside distractions by changing our clothing to special temple attire and being, for a moment anyway, separated from the distractions of outside life. In the temple we learn of the importance of circumspection, chastity, charity, sacrifice as well as the role that Jesus Christ and God the Father play in our lives. Show more Show less
