Hi I'm Joey

I'm a student aspiring to be a writer. I live for singing. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm your average college guy. I go to school. I go out with friends. I date. I have off days. I have good days. I struggle with the same challenges that everyone else faces. My family is my rock and my support, they help me get through the crazy life experiences thrown at me (as well as one's I put myself in). The oldest of eight kids, a role I was put in that has begun to define me more than ever. I study English, not really knowing what I'll do with it but loving it just the same. Most of the time I can be found with a book in my hand. Music completes me, a part of my life that I couldn't live without.

Why I am a Mormon

I've been a member of the Church since I was born. Believing in the gospel always seemed to come easy to me. I never felt like I questioned what was going on, I just learned what I needed to learn and trusted it, trusted the Lord. But when I got into my teenage years, as a lot of us do, I began to lose it. I stepped down a road that I, nor my parents, thought I would ever have stepped onto. But there I was. Walking down a path to a place that, deep down, I really didn't want to get to. A place far away from the Lord. I walked that path alone for a long time. But as I've studied and prayed and learned for myself that the gospel of Jesus Christ is the only way to have a truly happy life, I've relied more on the truths that are taught in the Church, the biggest and most important being the merciful Atonement of the Savior. Being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is the best choice I've continued to make for myself.

How I live my faith

Throughout my teenage years I was active in Scouting at church and received my Eagle Scout, which gave me many opportunities to serve at church and in the community. I always love going to church on Sundays and participating in the lessons and learning and teaching, it gives me an opportunity to grow spiritually every time I do. But mostly, I've begun to realize, that it comes down to the little things that are important, that truly help me to live my faith. Having daily and hourly prayer, studying the scriptures both ancient and modern, and trying every day to emulate the Savior's example. Faith, hope, charity, obedience. All of the attributes of the Savior don't come easy, but I know that as I work hard each day to develop them, and ask the Lord for His help, they will come slowly but surely.

What blessings can you receive from reading the Book of Mormon, the Bible, and other scriptures?

Joey
It wasn't till I was older and really contributed a portion of my day to studying the scriptures and it has made all the difference. Especially with reading the Book of Mormon, I find answers to questions all the time, questions I didn't even know that I had. If you pray for the Spirit before you read, and truly ask the Lord to reveal the things He would like you to know, the things that will be beneficial in your life, you will find those answers. Sometimes they're not immediately apparent, but they do come. In addition, a feeling of peace and comfort comes every time you immerse yourself in the words of the Lord. Strength is given to you.
