Hi I'm Laurentino Moreira

About Me

Member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since October 1982 when I was 18 years old, I have been an active member ever since. Born in Portugal (1964) and married with a wonderful daughter of our Heavenly Father since 1988 I have two wonderful sons and I am currently living in the United Kingdom. I enjoy serving Church members and other people, study the scriptures and having fun with my family and friends. Also like to hike, ride my road bike, play golf and participate in parties with my friends and family.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I have searched, asked and received in my mind and in my heart the confirmation that it is the true and living Church of Jesus Christ on the earth today. During the time I was receiving the full-time missionaries discussions I was challenged to read and pray about Joseph Smith and obtain confirmation if he was in did a Prophet of God. I still remember clearly the evening when in my bed room I read the pamphlet given me by the missionaries and after finish my reading questioning if my Father in Heaven was going to answer my prayer. I did get out of bed and knelt and offer my prayer in which I have asked for confirmation. I was a bit nervous but the prayer was sincere and my faith was present. I knew that there is a God and that He answers prayers. After some time a strong feeling came within me and I felt peace and joy and as if the loving arm of my Heavenly Father was over my shoulders. I knew it was true. I knew that what I was experiencing was a direct consequence of my search of wisdom (James 1:5) I this maker of Joseph Smith. He was in fact a Prophet of God he did see a vision in which he saw the Father and the Son Jesus Christ. After this I have continued to read the Book of Mormon and also received confirmation that it was scripture as the Bible is scripture. Now after 28 years of member of the Church and going through a full time mission the testimonies added to the first one are without number.

How I live my faith

I do hope of a good future. President Thomas S. Monson said that our future is as bright as our faith. Also I do try to keep in touch with my Heavenly Father by daily prayer and scripture studying, Church going and Serving. I do enjoy the company of my family and friends and they say that I am often smiling.

Why is self-reliance important to Mormons? Why do Mormons talk about emergency preparedness?

Laurentino Moreira
We all know that we live in a trouble world and that calamities are just around the corner. It has been like this in the past and it is now very present. I still remember what happened with my family when during April 1974 Portugal undergone a political revolution in which a Fascist government was replaced by a Democratic one. They were troubled times in which I was able to survive because my parents had some savings that helped us during that period. Prophets are seers and revelators they tell us what our Heavenly Father needs us to know. The advice of having a one year supply of food has been said for many years and I do have food storage and I am frequently updating it. Also I speak with my two sons of the need to be professionally qualified in order to have more opportunities of employment. Show more Show less

What are some things that tell to you there is a God?

Laurentino Moreira
A Prophet said: "all things denote there is a God; yea, even the earth, and all things that are upon the face of it, yea, and its motion, yea, and also all the planets which move in their regular form do witness that there is a Supreme Creator." (Alma 30:44 – The Book of Mormon). I do believe in these words. Also, my believe that God is it’s because of what I have experienced many times in my life. Jesus Christ said: “Ask and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock and it shall be opened unto you:” (Matthew 7:7). I have asked and I was given, I have sought and found and I have knock and it was open to me: Piece, Assurance, Comfort, Confidence, Support, Faith, Knowledge, Truth, and Reason. I know that God lives and the He is our Father in Heaven because I felt His presence through the prompting of the Holy Ghost in my mind and in my heart, through the support He has been providing me whilst going through lives’ obstacles. I know that each and every person will receive the same knowledge and testimony of the existence of God by following what Jesus Christ said in Matthew 7:7 and also by Moroni a Prophet of the Book of Mormon, he said “ when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost.” (Moroni 10:4) Show more Show less

Who wrote the Book of Mormon?

Laurentino Moreira
The Book of Mormon was written in a similar way the Bible was written. On this sense there are no differences between these to books. They are both scriptural. They are both a testament of Jesus Christ as the Saviour and Redeemer of mankind. They are both a manifestation of the will of God towards man manifested or revealed to His servants the Prophets. The Bible was written by Prophets and Apostles that have lived in Asia. The Book of Mormon was written by Prophets and Apostles that have lives in the American continent. Show more Show less

Why do Mormons believe in the Bible?

Laurentino Moreira
The Bible is the word of God. It contains the Gospel of Jesus Christ recorded by Prophets and Apostles from the early beginning of humanity until shortly after the resurrection of our Saviour Jesus Christ. It is a source of inspiration and a powerful guide for all that care to live this live with joy and love for the fellow-man. The Bible is a testimony of the live of Jesus Christ, his mission and his teachings. From the old testament to the new testament each of the prophets have testified of His Divinity and His coming to Earth. He is our Saviour and redeemer. Beautiful are the stories recorded in the old testament the doctrine of Isaiah and the Psalms of David. Beautiful also are the parables of Jesus Christ, His example, love and service. Why was a Restoration of the Gospel needed? Haven’t we always had the Bible?

Laurentino Moreira
The word Bible comes from Latin and it means a collection of books. The Bible has been written by Prophets and Apostles through the ages. Moses once called a Prophets of God did write the revelations from God in a book or in several books located in the beginning of the Bible. When Moses was taken from earth Joshua was called the Prophet on God. My question is why there was a need for another prophet after Moses if the prophetic words written by Moses were available at that time? Why than the other prophets for example Jeremiah if the words of Isaiah were available at the time? The Church of Jesus Christ on the earth was always characterized by the scriptures and by its leader the Prophets. Every time or the Scriptures or the Prophets were not the people walked different paths and created their own doctrines according to their own understanding. I consider myself blessed to live in a period when there are scriptures and also Prophets which is to me the prove that God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. Show more Show less

Why do Mormon missionaries proselyte?

Laurentino Moreira
I do not know about you, my fellow reader, but every time I find in my live anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, I not only seek after these things but also share them with my family, friends, neighbours and all of those the cross my way. I was a full-time missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Among the challenges of a nineteen year old serving such a mission I felt the desire to share what to me is the most precious gift I could possibly obtain during this life, the gift of Eternal Live. I could not simply stay idle nor quiet. Although I believe that the responsibility of ones conversion dwells on the other person and on God and not in me I believe that it is both my privilege and my duty to share the "good news" to all around me in a loving, respective and positive manner. Do you really believe there is a prophet like Moses alive today?

Laurentino Moreira
I do believe that there is a Prophet like Moses alive today. Always when God guided His people there has been Holy Scriptures and Prophets working together. Friends of mine I do speak with about these things agree that it would be wonderful to have a prophet like in the days of old with the talent to guide us today. I tell them that there is. We do have a living prophet today that receives revelation from Heavenly Father to help us go through lives challenges and opportunities. He is a loving man always ready to serve and to inspire us. Why is family so important to Mormons?

Laurentino Moreira
I choose to believe that we live on this earth to have joy. I also believe that joy cannot be found by living alone. Being this true we need to get along together in society. The best way to learn how to be happy and live together in harmony is through the teaching of our Saviour Jesus Christ. When we are born we do not carry in us the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Someone needs to help us know it, understand it and practice it. What better someone than my father and mother? Family is the most important organization for Mormons/ Latter-day Saints we also consider it as the only structure that will last for eternity. Our God is our Father hence we are His family. Being a father myself I feel that it is my duty, blessing and privilege to help my children to live happy and with the true knowledge of the reasons for their existence. I do not want to transfer this responsibility to anyone else. Show more Show less

What is the Mormon lifestyle like? How do Mormons live?

Laurentino Moreira
I am a Mormon and I enjoy living. Life is good. I understand that I live on this earth for a propose. I have a clear objective and although sometimes days are difficult I think of the person that is climbing the mount Everest. If during the climb someone asked him or her how he or she was doing the response would probably be: I am cold, I am fatigued but I am loving it. I try to place a good picture in every thing I go through. I love my family and my friends and those whom I serve. I live a regular live that includes family time, work, sports, Church, serve and fun, in many ways I am not different from many other people but I enjoy every day and the opportunities each day will bring. I have had many opportunities to serve others by helping them feel this joy and I hope I will be able to have more opportunities in the future to do so. Ho... By the way... I also feel that the way of happiness and the way Christ has taught us are not two but the same thing hence I do try to follow Jesus Christ example be best I can and respond with love in every situation. Live with a smile and live will smile to you. Show more Show less

What blessings can we receive through the gift of the Holy Ghost?

Laurentino Moreira
In the Bible we read that the Holy Ghost will teach us all things (John 14:26). I can confirm that this is true. When the missionaries were teaching me they told me to pray and know from God if what they were teaching me was true. I was surprise when they told me that I should pray alone in my bed room before I went to sleep. Perhaps they wanted me to know that I was not under any influence that had to do with their presence and my feelings during the message I had received. They wanted me to have a personal spiritual experience that was just mine and God's. I did what they told me. That day I went to bed after having done many things to do with my school responsibilities. I did remember what the missionaries told me and after reading a pamphlet I thought that this was as good as any other moment. I keel and prayed. I was used to pray every evening and honestly thought that it was going to be one more prayer in which the Heavens would not manifest themselves. But I was wrong. Short after I have started I did ask with some nervousness if Joseph Smith was in deed a Prophet called from God and that he did in deed saw the Father and the Son in a vision. Shortly after I have started to pronounce these words I have receive a feeling of peace so abundant and overwhelming that it could not be ignored. I also felt joy. I did start to smile. The joy and peace I have felt were not just for a short moment but instead remained as an indelible confirmation that it was true. Show more Show less
