Hi I'm Steve

I'm an Army officer. I create things. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a leader, mechanical engineer, photographer, graphic artist, and currently a college instructor. I love working with people. I like to know how things work. I love to learn and create things. Education is important to me, not for degrees, but to simply learn how the world works and to gain new skills. Family is the most important aspect of my life. I'm married to my best friend and we have five great kids and one on the way. For me, family is the purpose of life. While i enjoy my job and hobbies, true success for me is being the best dad and husband possible.

Why I am a Mormon

Because it is true and I love being happy. Truth when understood and followed always leads to happiness. I have learned for myself that there is an all powerful, eternal God who is our loving Heavenly Father and that His son is the Savior of all mankind and my personal Savior that knows me perfectly and individually. From them I have learned that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is Christ's true church on the earth today. I know this because God has revealed this to me many times through powerful and beautiful spiritual experiences that I cannot deny and honestly need to be experienced to be fully understood. Looking back on my life so far, I can attribute every good thing that has happened to me to my Savior Jesus Christ and my decisions to follow Him. On a similar note, I can attribute my greatest sorrows and problems to ignoring truth and following selfish desire or popular "wisdom". I see so many people in the world struggle from day to day unwittingly making choices that lead to unhappines. Often this happens as a result of misinformation on what brings happiness. Societies' teachings, remidies, and values sway with popularity and the latest "research" findings. Rarely do these solutions consider eternal truth, rather most tend to ignore natural consequence and give license and endorsement to activities that may bring temporary pleasure at the price of long term guilt, depression, and frustration. Truth when understood and followed will always bring lasting peace and pure joy. The teachings I have received from God directly through prayer, scriptures, and His modern day church, prophets and servants continually help me learn truth and find motivation to follow. Because of the church, I know the purpose of life, know what brings lasting happiness, am continually motivated to be the best person I can because I have hope for a beautiful eternal future with my family.

How I live my faith

I try to be the best Christian I know how to be. For me, this means always trying to act the way Christ would if He were in my shoes. One thing I really love about the church are the opportunities to serve. I currently serve as a Sunday School leader and teacher. I teach teenage youth as well as adults from the scriptures each Sunday. I really enjoy this because teaching is how our Savior spent his time and it is an honor for me to serve the same way. I also visit homes of a few members each month to give spiritual messages and help with special needs. In the past I have worked with the youth in scouting programs, taught Sunday school to toddlers all the way up to grandparents, sang in choirs, organized community service projects, led men's organizations, served as a chaplain 2 times while in Iraq for war, and given numerous sermons to entire congregations. The church is a wonderful place for imperfect people to gather regularly to help each other be better people through learning and relearning true Christian principles and renewing promises to God. I've learned from all this that I'm happiest when I focus outwardly on serving rather than expecting to be served.
