Hi I'm Michele

I grew up in Utah. I'm a college student. I'm a blackbelt. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My name is Michele. I'm 30 years old, single and living in Utah. I'm a student at the University of Utah and when I'm not at school or work I love to study the martial arts. I have a 2nd degree black belt in Shaolin kungfu and used to be an instructor. I also love to do anything outside like hiking, rockclimbing, skiing and snowboarding.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in Utah, but I wasn't a Mormon. All my life I've had Mormon friends and so I thought I knew about the Church and the Gospel. It wasn't until right before I turned 21 that I realized I was searching for something. There seemed to be a hole in my heart and life that I couldn't explain and no matter what I tried to fill it with, friends, family, work, it wasn't enough. So I began searching. I had the opportunity to travel to China and spend time at a Buddhist Monastery, where I had a very spiritual experience and when I returned home I decided to study Buddhism more extensively...I even cut my hair off and became a vegetarian...for about a week. The things I learned during my studies were good things, but it was not the same feeling I felt in China and it wasn't enough to fill that hole in my heart. I continued my searching and began going to a Lutheran church in town, and just like my previous study I learned good things but wasn't satisfied. Finally, a good friend suggested that I meet with the missionaries. I kept trying to come with reasons why I shouldn't, but finally she said "What do you have to lose?" And so I met with the Elders. When they taught me about Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ appearing to Joseph Smith in that grove of trees in upstate New York, I felt the same thing I had felt in China, but it was a thousand times stronger! Six weeks later I was baptized and a year and a half later I left to serve as a missionary myself, sharing the joyful message of Jesus Christ's Atonement. I know God is our Father and He loves us! Through the Atonement of His Son, Jesus Christ we can all return to live with Him again. Joseph Smith did see God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ. The Book of Mormon is the word of God and we can learn more about what God has in planned for us by reading it. Joining the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was the greatest decision I've ever made, my life has been unspeakably blessed because of it

How I live my faith

I'm currently working with the children in our congregation. Each Sunday, I along with several other adult leaders and teachers, teach the kids about different principles of the gospel. We also teach them about Jesus and about Heavenly Father's love for all of his children. We sing songs about faith, obedience and the power of prayer. I'm so grateful to get to participate in this each week, anyone that's been around children knows that though their faith and understanding is simple, it can also be the most strong and pure. Most weeks I leave feeling like I've been taught instead of having done the teaching.

What do Mormons believe about the Bible? Do they regard it as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

Michele
Yes! We believe that the King James version of the Holy Bible is absolutely the word of God. Mormons regard this text as a sacred record recording the life of our Savior Jesus Christ, in addition to the Bible, members of the LDS faith also study The Book Of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ. We believe that the Bible and the Book of Mormon compliment each other, working hand in hand to teach us of the life of our Savior. Show more Show less
