Hi I'm Marisa

I grew up in San Diego and ended up in Arizona where I learned to love sun, sand, and rocks. Best of all, I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm an optimistic, single, working, happy individual. Did I mention that I was happy? On occasion I have been accused of painting my smile on my face, but I didn't. I promise. Life is entertaining so how can I not smile? An eternal optimist, I am. I am. Some basics about me... BA Degree: English but I don't like to teach, so why I chose English I have yet to figure out. Career: Accounting with a LOVE for Excel. Happy sigh. Excel. Such order. Such functionality. Little boxes full of numbers and formulas. Life is bliss when Excel is near. Loves: Books, books, and more books! I love the smell, the look, and feel of books. I'm in the middle of four books right now with another eight sitting on my shelf waiting to be read. Hiking=major weakness. There is something about the victory of reaching the top of the mountain or the remote waterfall or the hidden canyon that speaks to my soul. Dislikes: Ball point pens. Yes. It's true. I am a pen snob. In fact, when signing the docs for my home, I brought my own pen only to be told that I had to decide between my house and using their blue ball point pen. It was a tough decision... but the house won.

Why I am a Mormon

I am Mormon because the church taught me who I am and who I can become. I can't imagine not knowing that God knows me, loves me, listens to me, understands me, and that nothing will change that.

How I live my faith

I try my very best to be as kind, understanding, patient, and honest as I can. Sometimes, especially in rush hour traffic, that can be hard. It helps that every Sunday I get to go to church. Church gives me the time out I need to help me remember who I want to become and how I want to live my life today. Every Sunday I get to teach the 8-year-old kids in Primary. I love how those kids say things as they see it. For example, apparently the reason I am not yet married is because I do not paint my fingernails and I wear glasses. Ahhh... to be so young again and have those be the worst of my concerns. I also volunteer one night a week at a local family history center. I help anyone who is interested discover their roots. I love it! Some nights are quieter than others, so I slip in some research on my own family history.

What do Mormons believe about the Bible? Do they regard it as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

Marisa
The Bible testifies of Christ, of His divinity, and of His love for His people. I read the Old Testament and I see a loving God who heard the prayer of a barren woman and gave her a son, Samuel. I see a God of miracles who raised a widow's son from the dead and who fed Israel for forty years as they wandered in the wilderness. I read the New Testament and I learn about the perfect life of the Savior--what He taught, how He lived, and how He died. The Bible most certainly is Holy Scripture. Show more Show less
