Hi I'm Peter

I'm an Engineer, I'm a Family Man, I'm a Mormon

About Me

I've never been to the moon, despite the picture, but I'd like to go sometime. I have sailed the open ocean as a merchant sailor, but my love for the sea was dwarfed when I met my beautiful wife, and even more so now thanks to our beautiful daughter. So I've thrown in the sailors hat and taken up work as an engineer for submarines. This keeps my feet on terra firma and my heart within the walls of my home. And so we're a happy family.

Why I am a Mormon

I believe in Jesus Christ and that He is the Savior of all those who come unto Him. I have studied and prayed much about how to come unto Christ. I have come to the conclusion that it is essential that if we are to fully live our faith we need to participate in ordinances (Such as Baptism) which can only be administered (performed) by those who are called of God to perform them. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints claims, and I believe, that it was organized by Jesus Christ, and that the men who hold the authority to perform ordinances were in fact called by God. I have prayed much, and I have felt strongly that this is true.

How I live my faith

My wife and I teach a class at church called Temple and Family History. It's about the importance of family and what our family will mean to us after this life. But the most important way I live my faith is by trying my hardest to be the best husband and father that I can, by modeling my life after Jesus Christ. I'm not there yet, but my wife and daughter have been very patient with me so far.

What do Mormons believe concerning the doctrine of grace?

Peter
We believe that through the atonement of Christ all mankind may be saved by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the gospel. As Christ taught concerning grace: Come unto me all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. As I understand these verses in order to obtain grace and find rest to our souls we must not walk without purpose, but be yoked to the Lord's wagon, pulling forward the Kingdom of God, and doing that which Christ himself would do. We must come unto Christ, for it is in Christ that we find grace, which frees us from the load of sin and the yoke of iniquity. Show more Show less

What blessings can we receive through the gift of the Holy Ghost?

Peter
The Holy Ghost is a divinely appointed companion who can accompany us through life. He will draw near to all who are seeking truth, but earning his constant companionship requires obedience to the laws and ordinances of the gospel. In this life we are not much different than the Ugly Duckling from the children's story by this name by Hans Christian Anderson. We are born into an environment and a society that is different from who we are inside. We are born with an eternal spirit within us. That spirit brings with it divine attributes, similar to those attributes that Jesus Christ exemplified when he was on earth. But our society, in general, embraces many attributes that are earthy, not divine. Just as the Ugly Duckling did not fit in, because of his heritage, so it is with mankind. As children of God, we do not fit into this earthy existence, because of our heritage. The Holy Ghost is like the Swan, who shared the same heritage as the Ugly Duckling. As a heavenly being, the Holy Ghost shares a divine heritage with us. With His companionship we are constantly reminded who we really are, and what our true potential is. As we embrace the Gift of the Holy Ghost we begin to develop heavenly attributes. The apostle Paul described some of those attributes when he said: "The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance..." In this way, the Holy Ghost will help us reach our divine potential. Show more Show less
