Hi I'm Linda Lee

About Me

Hi! I'm an 8th grade Language Arts teacher in Texas. I've been teaching school for 31 years now, and still love teaching but am getting a little weary of those thousands of essays I've edited and graded. I raised two sons and helped raise five step-children, and now I get to play with my grandkids. My extended family still enjoys camping together; we've been going to the same campground almost every year for fifty years. We're not all as close as we would like, but we love getting together. That's a bit about me.

Why I am a Mormon

Almost eight years ago my marriage came apart. My husband left me and his five children who I had been helping to raise all split up and went separate ways. My two adult sons were already out of the house pursuing their lives, so I found myself alone for the first time in a long time. I have always been a seeker of truth and this dramatic change not only forced me to look closely again at my faith, but also gave me plenty of time to do it since I went instantly from taking care of a family of seven to just myself. One day two LDS missionaries knocked on my door. We talked, we listened to each other, we asked each other questions, and they challenged me to read the Book of Mormon. They asked me to pray for the knowledge of its truth. They asked me to ask God if this was His word, inspired by Him. So I did. I had always thought the Book of Mormon was about Joseph Smith. You can image my surprise when I found out that it was the story of ancient people on this side of the world who had a relationship with their Heavenly Father and His son, Jesus Christ. After reading, I had no doubt that the book was inspired by God. It contained divine truths; many identical truths to those found in the Bible, which I had studied for years. It indeed was a second testimony of our Savior. Of course, this was not the end of my questions, but accepting this truth led to continued acceptance of gospel truths revealed to me through further study with the missionaries. Many of these truths were answers to questions I had been struggling with for years - like why was marriage only "to death do us part", and why would Heavenly Father stop talking to His people through prophets? As I've grown in my faith and my relationship with both my Heavenly Father and our Savior Jesus Christ, I have increased my understanding bit by bit and with that, my peace with my new life has also increased right along with those new understandings. The Gospel truths are here for learning & living.

How I live my faith

I serve in my church as part of our activities committee. This means that I help plan events that will be fun for the entire church. I've only been a member of the church for seven years, but I've served in a number of different callings. I've been a Sunday school teacher of children and adults. I've also been in a calling where I helped teach teachers about teaching others. In my work community and the town I live in, I try to always be an example of the light of Christ and reflect the joys of righteous living even when things may be personally tough.

To what do you attribute the growth of the Church?

Linda Lee
This Church grows because God promised that it would. He said nothing would stop His work, and this Church is constantly in touch with what Heavenly Father wants us to be doing. Its growth is a testimony to its truth! Show more Show less

Why do you have 12 Apostles? They were just meant to be around for the time of Jesus Christ, not to be replaced with new apostles.

Linda Lee
When Christ started His Church, He had twelve apostles. He told them what He expected them to do, and they did their best to do what they had been instructed to do. They replaced Judas and continued this practice of replacing apostles until the persecution of Christian Church leaders became impossible to keep up with. Heavenly Father saw again man's selfish nature turn him against the Church and its doctorine. He removed the authority of his Church, but promised to return it in the latter days. So He did. Do you really believe there is a prophet like Moses alive today?

Linda Lee
I certainly do. It only makes sense that God would NEVER stop talking to His people. When I look at this world and the intricate order of things, I know that our Creator is a God of order. He has always had at least one prophet on the earth to talk to His children. It never made sense to me (even before I joined this church) that He would just stop talking to us through them. What will the Mormon missionaries talk about when they visit my home?

Linda Lee
Well, I'm thinking they will do just what they did when they knocked on my door. They will ask you to pray to God to know the truth of the Book of Mormon. They will give you some reading assignments (or they'll just turn you loose at let you read the whole book like I did) and ask you to pray constantly to know whether the Book is divinely inspired. Then they'll come back and ask you what you think! Show more Show less
