Hi I'm Catherine Louise

I'm from Southern California, and I'm a first-generation convert to Mormonism!

About Me

I am a mother of five children with a growing number of grandchildren. Initially, I came from a broken home, so I have felt very blessed to have been given the pattern of whole and happy families through the examples of others in the church, and a loving Heavenly Father. I have been blessed with the gift of music. This has been a stabilizing influence in my life and an open wedge in blessing and reaching out to others on many occasions. I also try to be a "people pleaser", simply because I enjoy making people happy!

Why I am a Mormon

I have been a member of the Church since 1966, having been baptized my senior year of high school. When I was thirteen years old, missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the Mormons) came into our home to teach Mormonism to my older sister. I eavesdropped! I felt, almost immediately, something familiar and comforting. It was like "remembering" something I had always known. That was the beginning of my studies of the Book of Mormon and attending church whenever I could, in spite of extreme opposition from my parents. Due to family difficulties, I wasn't able to take missionary lessons or be baptized for several years. When I've had questions or my faith has been weak, I have been able to recall this "testimony", with the assurance that it had come from the Lord. I not only learned that families can learn to be happy together in this life, but that we can continue to be families forever! This is my greatest joy, because my family is the most important "possession" I have.

How I live my faith

I serve in my local ward as a teacher of young children. Every Sunday I spend two wonderful hours with them. They are eager to learn the teachings of Christ, and they teach me as well! I also have the privilege of visiting a few other women each month and bringing a spiritual thought to them. I try to be of service to them in any way I can. There is a feeling of "sisterhood" among Mormon women that gives us strength and support in our many challenging roles. I also try to live what I believe wherever I am, so that people may see the teachings of Christ in action through me.

What is the Law of Chastity?

Catherine Louise
It is our Heavenly Father's law to regard our bodies as we would a sacred temple. He has commanded us in the Bible and other scriptures to avoid fornication and adultery, for these sins bring only unhappiness, and sometimes disease or death. It is a loving Father who has given us this law, which will protect us spiritually and physically. It is essential to the Plan of Salvation that we enter not into those things which are reserved only for those who have entered into a marriage covenant. Show more Show less

Do Mormons only help Mormons?

Catherine Louise
Some of the dearest relationships in my life have been with non-Mormons. Having come from a non-Mormon family, I have learned to value all people, regardless of their beliefs. All of us are children of a loving Heavenly Father and, in a literal sense, we are all brothers and sisters. Jesus Christ taught us to "love thy neighbor as thyself". Who is our neighbor? All of God's children! The Church encourages its members to reach out with loving arms to all who need help. Show more Show less

How can I know Mormonism is true?

Catherine Louise
I testify that we have a loving Heavenly Father, who wishes to bless all of His children. Therefore, it is consistent with His loving nature that He would desire to teach His children how to return to Him. We may receive all the blessings available to earnest seekers of truth. All who have a sincere desire to know the truth and are willing to exercise faith, even as the grain of a mustard seed, may receive answers from God. If you will study Mormonism and pray with a sincere heart, in the name of Christ, to know if it is true, your Father In Heaven will reveal the truth to you through the sweet whisperings and still, small voice of the Holy Ghost, who is the Revealer of all truth. You may feel a burning in your heart and a peace "which passeth all understanding" as you receive that personal communication from God, the Father of us all. He will answer our prayers individually and personally, and it is through the ministrations of the Holy Ghost that we will receive those answers. This is a promise given in the Book of Mormon, Moroni 10:4-5. I invite all to take the challenge! Show more Show less
