Hi I'm Devin

I'm a Utah boy with a lot of Polynesia in me. I'm a husband to an amazing woman & father to be. I'm a web designer & I'm a Mormon.

About Me

The most important thing in my life is my wife and one of my greatest ambitions is to make her the happiest woman alive! When I'm not working on that, I love playing volleyball, going to the beach, watching movies, snowboarding (not on the beach), reading, driving a Jeep or a moped, playing guitar and ukulele, and more! I'm a bit of a tech geek and love Apple products. I work for the LDS (Mormon) church as a web/interaction designer. I am a multimedia creator who loves web design, graphic design, motion graphics, video production and photography. I graduated from BYU–Hawaii with a degree in International Cultural Studies - Communication. For the last 7 years I've been living in Polynesia. I've been to New Zealand, Hawaii, and Samoa (which is where my wife is from). I speak Samoan and a bit of Tongan. Polynesians are a great bunch of people to be around!

Why I am a Mormon

I became a Mormon because I was born into the LDS Church. I had opportunities to leave, as all members do. At some point I had to ask myself whether or not I believed that this is Christ's restored gospel. Even though I had read the Book of Mormon before, I had to pray (like all who investigate the church) to know if it was true. When I learned for myself that it was, I knew that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God, since it was he who translated the book by the power of God. I know that this church is guided by a living prophet, and that Christ, my Savior and Redeemer, is the head of the church. It's amazing to me to think that Jesus Christ literally leads this church...it is HIS church after all. I am confident that following the commandments will make people happy. I screw up quite a bit, I'm not perfect. When I think about the happiest times of my life, it is the times that I was adhering to the gospel as much as I could.

How I live my faith

I like to keep my devotion/religion personal. I've got plenty of flaws to work on so I don't worry much about what other people are doing. I try my best to keep the commandments, be a good husband, and do my duties. I have to admit that I'm far from perfect. My wife and I go to the temple together every month. The church blesses families, and I try to make sure that it blesses mine.

What is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' attitude regarding homosexuality and same sex marriage?

Devin
We believe that marriage is between a man and a woman. The Lord gave us a commandment called the Law of Chastity which states that sexual relations outside of marriage as defined by God are forbidden. This includes premarital sex, pornography, adultery, and homosexuality. Individuals who are attracted towards those of the same sex can enjoy all the blessings of the gospel including holding callings, going to the temple, and holding the priesthood for men. However, those privileges are revoked when someone engages in any sexual activity which is forbidden in the Law of Chastity, including homosexual behavior. There has been a lot of confusion, hatred, and pain regarding same sex attraction and the Church. Members should remember their Christian duty to love one another. It would be wrong for anyone to treat members of the gay community with unkindness or any other attitude which is not "Christian". We respect other's rights to have their own opinion and to defend those beliefs publicly and politically. We ask that others respect our decision to publicly and politically stand up for what we believe. Show more Show less
