Hi I'm Mark

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Hi, I'm Mark! I am a sports enthusiast. I love to attend sporting events. Growing up I loved going to games with my family and spending time talking sports with my friends. I love to play basketball, football and baseball, and play year round in different leagues in my community. I served a mission for the church in Asuncion Paraguay and speak Spanish as a result of my time there. My wife and I met in college and have been "dating" ever since! I have been married for about 5 years and have a 2 year old little boy. My family means everything to me. I enjoy spending time going out on dates with my wife and getting together with friends. I just returned from Guatemala where I was with 20 of my classmates doing volunteer dental work for kids ages 5-17 for 8 days! We saw hundreds of kids and had an amazing experience helping out those in less fortunate circumstances. I am currently in my last year of dental school and anxiously awaiting graduation after 8 long years of college!

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because I love the teachings of Jesus Christ. They bring lasting happiness in my life. As the center of the church, and Savior of the world, I believe that He lived a perfect life and died so my imperfect life can be made perfect by means of his sacrifice. He is my example and the sole reason my life has a purpose. Without him, the church has no author and life has no purpose. Being a "Mormon," while having many other benefits, is mainly about being a follower of Jesus Christ, and trying to live how he lived. When friends ask me why I don't drink, why I don't play sports on Sunday, or about my service as a missionary, I can truthfully say I do/did all these things because I believe that is what Christ asks of me. The things I have learned as a member of the church have showed me how to live my life. While agency and choice are still mine, I know what Christ would have me do because he guides the church, as he always has, thru living prophets who share His message with me!

How I live my faith

I am currently serving with the young men in my ward ages 12-14. I enjoy helping them with scouts each week and teaching them the value of becoming an Eagle Scout. During our meetings each Sunday, I teach them about their responsibilities as sons of God, and the teachings of Jesus Christ. Recently all of the youth of the church in our neighborhood (our ward), walked to the temple from our regular chapel, (about 20 miles in total.) We experienced the sacrifice many early members of the church made when they traveled far to get to the temple. It was a chance for all of us to learn about how important our "journey" to the temple is and how it requires preparation, sacrifice, effort and commitment. There were many challenges along the way; snow, close to freezing temperatures, and tired legs, but ultimately we all made it to the temple. The temple is a place different from our churches, in the temple we learn more about our Heavenly Father and his plan for us. We make promises to live the teachings of Christ. The temple is also a place where we can be "sealed/married" for all eternity to our spouse and family. I am so grateful I have been sealed to my wife and my son. The knowledge that our family will exist after this life is comforting and gives me motivation to live a life worthy of that blessing.
