Hi I'm Michael

I'm a Mormon and I love working on my family history.

About Me

I'm an average guy. I work as a head custodian in my local school district. I've been married for 3 years and we are still waiting to be blessed with children. As it says above I love to work on my family history. I love how it makes me feel when I can find names of my ancestors and then to find out additional information about them. I also love music and enjoy singing. I conduct the choir in my congregation.

Why I am a Mormon

Even though I was born to parents who had already joined the church in their early adult years it is my own decision to be a Mormon now as an adult myself. Even though we all appear to be continually happy doesn't mean we lead easy lives. My wife and I have struggled to start a family and last year my wife suffered a miscarriage while expecting what would have been our first child. We were grief-stricken. The teachings of the our church's leaders about overcoming adversity and about the sufferings of Jesus helped me to overcome my sorrow and find peace. I'll always be grateful for those teachings and the support I felt from my fellow church members. I love this church. I know it to be true. I am so grateful that the Lord speaks through our church leaders so that we can know what we are to do in our lives. And most of all; I'm so grateful the Lord suffered so that we could find peace in affliction.

How I live my faith

First and foremost I try to live my faith by doing as Jesus would have me do. I make an effort to treat everyone I meet with courtesy and respect. At work I do this by trying to serve the teachers and students who occupy my school building. In public I do this by just being a nice guy. In my family I try to improve my relationship with them. At church I lead the choir in my congregation and I always try to select songs that will uplift those in attendance and help set the mood. I try to make people feel welcome to choir practice by not selecting difficult music that would discourage people who have not had extensive musical training.

Why do Mormons perform baptisms for the dead?

Michael
We believe that we need to serve our ancestors along with our fellow men. This is one of the reasons we do our family history. I always feel close to my Heavenly Father when I get to perform baptisms for my own ancestors. Even though I never knew them I feel as if I grow close to them. As with any other faith family is very important. Proxy baptisms is one of the ways we show our love to our family. Show more Show less

Why are Mormons asked to donate 10% of their income to their Church?

Michael
We feel as a people that all we have been blessed with comes from our Heavenly Father to begin with. He asks of us to give back 10% so that His church can do its work. At times it feels like a lot of money. It leaves me wondering sometimes how I'm going to meet all my expenses in a month but somehow, thanks to my Heavenly Father it always works out. I've learned that the Lord always prepares a way for us to follow his commandments. Show more Show less
