Hi I'm Esko

I am Finnish, a son, a brother, a husband, a dad and yeah...I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am one of the triplets in our big family of 9 kids. I was born in the States while my dad was working for the church translation department in Salt Lake City. My parents are Finnish, and so am I - just a Finn with two passports. I am currently a bishop of a great ward in the capital of Finland in Helsinki. I am also a proud father of two beautiful children. My wife and I enjoy spending time with family - she is originally from Hong Kong and we are highschool sweethearts. Life is a great blessing and I hope to learn to be grateful for every moment of it.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents joined the church in their late teens - however, just before it was my time to serve a mission, I had to figure things out for myself and not just rely on my parents' guidance. I turned to the Lord in thought and prayer, studying the scriptures. A turning point came as I was helping our family to build a new home in the outskirts of Helsinki - one early spring morning my heart was opened up by a powerful feeling of love for other people, the same kind that our Heavenly Father has for each one of his children. I just knew then, amidst the birds singing and the first rays of sunshine rising over the treetops that our Father in heaven knows us personally, he loves us, has a plan for us!...and that this is the message that I have shared through out our life. I feel it and I know many of us do and can too. (=

How I live my faith

I am as regular as they come. I go to work, spend time with the family, serve in the church/community and go to church on Sunday. As the bishop, I have had the privilege and pleasure to help the people in our ward by listening to them, making sure they are safe spiritually and temporally - They are wonderful people from all paths of life - each one of them is a great example to me of perseverance, commitment, faith and love. I love the youth, young adults and all the goodness that the gospel and the church provides.

What is faith?

Esko
Faith is something that is within all of us - it is the force that makes you wake up in the morning, fills you with hope and love and carries you through life. Despite our occasional disbelief or disheartened feelings, faith is ever present - it is the power through which we will be able to have a more full purpose of life. Focused on our big brother and Savior Jesus Christ, it will fill our life with light and joy. Faith is a strong principle as it self, however, coupled with a saving element - the Son of God, it has the potential to create new life, give eternal purpose and light and guidance. I have no doubt in my mind that anyone who puts their trust in God and even just tries to have faith in Him, will find who they are, their eternal purpose and potential they have. Faith is a gift given to mankind to lead us back to our heavenly home. Show more Show less
