Hi I'm Steve

I belong to the Church of Jesus Christ.

About Me

I am a graphic design professional on the West Coast of the United States, married with four excellent children. I've been a life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; served a mission in Perú and love the culture and language of that great nation. I enjoy backpacking and writing, typography, jazz music and building terrifically intricate Lego structures with my kids.

Why I am a Mormon

I have chosen to be a member of this Church for the following reasons: 1. I love the way that it has connected me with deep, profound happiness and opportunities to experience great optimism. 2. I love the way that it strengthens my own family, my relationship with my wife and our children. 3. I love how my knowledge of Jesus Christ, my Savior, helps me in times of trial, difficulty and challenge. I love how this same knowledge amplifies the joy that I am also able to receive through life's happier experiences. 4. I love how God's commandments help me to feel protected in a spiritually-volatile world. I love how obedience has become a quest rather than an irritant. I love how standards and morals and covenants help me to see priorities with greater clarity. 5. I love the feelings of tremendous self-worth that come from service and sacrifice. 6. I love the blessings of temple worship, and how close I feel to God when I am there.

How I live my faith

I have served in various callings (assignments), both as a teacher, administrator and as a bishop (which is much like a pastor or local priest). I most enjoy responsibilities that put me in contact with youth. I have served in missionary capacities at various times, and love helping others to better understand our faith and to help them along their own spiritual path, however they choose to travel it. We live the gospel actively in our home as well, through regular Family Home Evenings, regular family prayer and scripture study – we find that these activities unite us with our children in ways that are enduring and wonderful.

Who is the Mormon prophet today?

Steve
We believe that God continues His eternal pattern of revealing His will to His children in these days as well as He did anciently. As a result He has designated certain individuals as prophets, seers and revelators for the purpose of communicating this Will. Currently, we believe that the Lord has designated a man named Thomas S. Monson as this prophet, and as President of the Church. President Monson is a singularly kind and compassionate individual, and is as beloved for his selfless ministering service as he is for his prophetic insight. He truly exemplifies Jesus' mandate that "he that is greatest among you shall be your servant." [Matthew 23:11] President Monson is assisted by two counselors who are likewise brilliantly gentle, wise and profoundly humble. These three individuals are referred to as The First Presidency; their position is analogous to the role that the ancient apostles Peter, James and John assumed after the resurrection and ascension of Jesus Christ.
