Hi I'm Matt

I grew up on a cattle ranch in northwestern Utah, USA. I'm an HR consultant in Shenzhen, China. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I live with my beautiful wife and our four kids, in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, Peoples Republic of China. I am an HR Consultant for a large Insurance and HR consulting firm. I love to snow and water ski, fly fish, and play basketball and flag football. My wife and I love to take our little family on road trips to explore this wonderful country. I grew up on a cattle ranch in Northwestern Utah, over 9,000 miles away from where I live now.

Why I am a Mormon

I think 3 words describe why I am a Mormon. Heritage - I have ancestors who heard young missionaries share the wonderful message of the restored gospel and gave up their livelihoods to cross the great plains of the United States to pursue freedom to practice the faith they gained and cherished. This faith has been passed down from generation to generation and is responsible for establishing my family as followers of Jesus Christ. Conviction - Heritage can only take one so far in their search for Truth. One must seek out a personal conviction or testimony of this Truth. For me, this has been a lifelong pursuit highlighted by several watershed moments that have solidified my faith, most importantly in Jesus Christ as my savior, and that his Gospel, Church, and Kingdom have been restored to the earth in our day. I cannot deny what is in my heart. Happiness - The 'fruits' of my faith are undeniably wonderful. Though life has its challenges, I know my spiritual foundation, and that of my family and marriage, is built on the rock solid footing of the gospel of Jesus Christ. This gives me purpose, clear vision, moral conviction, and HAPPINESS, despite the trials of life. In fact, I believe that life is about cheerfully enduring and learning from every challenge we face. I am truly happy and that is 'priceless.'

How I live my faith

My church responsibility, also known as a calling, is to teach a Sunday School class for youth ages 14-17. I am also a home teacher which means I teach and help several families in our congregation regularly with any spiritual or financial issues they may have and assist the head of household in leading his/her family. My best responsibility is being a husband and father. It is my greatest honor. I absolutely LOVE every calling and responsibility I have.

Can a husband and wife be together forever? Do Mormons believe that families will live together in heaven?

Matt
Under inspiration from the Holy Spirit, the apostle Paul wrote, "Nevertheless, neither the man without the woman, nor the woman without the man, in the Lord." This refers to the gospel truth of eternal marriage. Families can be joined together in holy temples for eternity through sacred convenants and ordinances, which if those covenants are kept and the family lives righteously, provides for life together after we die, not just 'til death do us part. Paradise and eternal life with God could not be complete unless we live with our loved ones again. Show more Show less
