Hi I'm Bruce Douglas

I'm a Mormon from Canada. I am a father of 6 wonderful children.

About Me

I joined the Mormon Church when I was 18 years old. It made a big difference to my life. Through participating in my church I learned how to become a successful husband and father and to provide service to my community. Principles I learned at church helped me succeed with my education and to become a successful professional. The relationship I built with my Father in Heaven and with my Saviour have helped me overcome difficult challenges in my life.

Why I am a Mormon

I joined the Mormon Church because I saw that my Mormon friends lived the principles they professed in public and in private. I knew they were sincere and honest so when a friend invited me to participate with him and listen to the missionaries, I felt it would be worthwhile. I felt a great peace, joy and divine love when I learned about the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ. I saw the high goals and ideals of my friends and wanted to participate with them. Thirty-seven years later, I have never regretted my decision. My faith brings me great peace and lasting joy and happiness.

How I live my faith

When I was investigating the Mormon faith, I felt I should do my best to live the principles of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. My church participation has helped me to love and serve my family and my friends and neighbours. It has taught me to love, respect and serve others of all faiths. Although I have made mistakes, I have tried to learn from them. I know my Father in Heaven lives because he answers my prayers. I know Jesus Christ is real because what He taught really works and because I feel forgiven for my mistakes. I feel that He wants me to succeed in my family and other worthwhile endeavours and helps me to do so.

What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

Bruce Douglas
Before I investigated the Church, I knew that my Mormon friends did not smoke or consume alcoholic beverages and that they even abstained from tea and coffee. Although I didn't at the time understand all the reasons for their "health code," I respected my friends for keeping it. The missionaries taught me that our bodies are the temple of God and that we should not consume harmful or addictive substances. I have lived by these principles for 37 years and they have blessed my life. I have had very good health and a clear mind, able to feel the Holy Spirit. Show more Show less

Why is self-reliance important to Mormons? Why do Mormons talk about emergency preparedness?

Bruce Douglas
Although I believe Heavenly Father answers every sincere prayer of faith, I have never received an answer to prayer that made me weaker. I know Heavenly Father wants me to become stronger and self-reliant even though I rely on Him for so much in my daily life. Show more Show less

How can I know Mormonism is true?

Bruce Douglas
I found out that Mormonism is true by listening to the Missionaries, by reading and studying the Book of Mormon and by doing my best to follow its teachings. The Book of Mormon contains the fullness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I prayed with faith and sincerity and did my best to make my life comply with the principles of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I received helpful support from Church members and felt a quiet but powerful peace, joy and support of the Holy Ghost almost every step of the way. That has lasted, pretty much without interruption, for 37 years and continues today. Show more Show less
