Hi I'm Beth

I love life!

About Me

I'm Beth. I am an interior design student -- at 50! At 48 I finally decided what I wanted to be when I grow up. I LOVE school (most of the time), and would do it forever if it were a paying job. I SHOULD graduate in spring of 2015 if all goes according to plan. I love to travel. I have been to Asia, Europe, the Caribbean, Central America, Canada and all over the southern and western United States. Next year I will be travelling to South America, and I will take my first trip back east in early 2015. I joined the church when I was 24 and served a mission to Austria a year later. Four months after I returned home I married my best friend, Steve. I now have two amazing adult children, one of whom is serving a mission in Philadelphia

Why I am a Mormon

I remember hearing when I was small that people who had never heard of the gospel of Jesus Christ -- people who lived in areas where Christianity was not even taught, would be doomed to an eternity of being separated from their Heavenly Father. This never seemed fair to me. My sister joined the church in 1986 and one of the things she told me about was that EVERYONE would have a chance to hear, and to accept or reject the gospel of Christ and that judgement would not be passed upon them until they UNDERSTOOD. This doctrine alone convinced me that I wanted to learn more. As I continued to learn, many things made sense that had been confusing before. I now understand why I am here on earth, where I came from, what (in part) my purpose is, and where I'm going. I also understand that while I don't see the big picture of my life, my Savior does, and my eternal happiness is His concern. I know He loves me and it is my privilege to know and love Him.

How I live my faith

I attend church every single week unless I am sick. I currently serve as the building librarian -- a calling which I enjoy MUCH more than I ever thought I would! I think the people in my ward are simply AMAZING and I consider myself very blessed to be among them. My favorite callings in the church have involved the youth -- Sunday school teacher to 15-18 year olds, Young Women's Presidency, Road Show coordinator. I even enjoyed my 3 years as Cub Committee Chairman. I also love volunteer service. In the past, I have been a Girl Scout Leader, an English teacher for Literacy Volunteers of America, a foreign exchange host mother, a temple worker, a civic activist, and a student leader.

Do you really believe there is a prophet like Moses alive today?

Beth
I remember my sister telling me for the first time that there was a prophet alive today. Naturally, I pictured a serious old man in robes with a long, white beard and sandals. Nope. Our prophet today is a lovely, happy, humorous man in a sharp business suit with a deep care and concern for all people. His name is Thomas S. Monson. (Look him up on YouTube. I think you'll be impressed.) The Lord tells us that He will ALWAYS reveal His words through prophets, and that He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He doesn't love us any less than He loved His people in biblical times. Goodness knows we NEED a prophet today to guide us through all the craziness, and to keep us on the right path when there is so much confusion and differing political, religious and dogmatic beliefs. Why would He leave us alone NOW when we need His direction so badly? The answer is: He wouldn't, and doesn't. Show more Show less
