Hi I'm Emily

I'm a blonde haired, blue eyed girl from Nebraska. I enjoy reading, hiking, and learning. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a senior at Brigham Young University. My major is Humanities with an emphasis in Art History. Although I don't really know what I want to do after graduation, I think I would like to start working in a museum. I try to live a pretty low-key lifestyle and my hobbies really reflect that. I like reading, hiking, being crafty, strolling around art museums, watching movies, camping, and I think you get the idea here. Recently, I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. This came as a big shock to me and my family because I'm so young and we don't have a significant history of cancer in our family. Cancer has proved itself to be intimidating and scary, and I wouldn't have been able to get through it without the support of family, friends, colleagues, fellow Latter-day Saints, and my Savior.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because my parents were pioneers for my family. No, they didn't cross America with handcarts and wagons, but they joined the church early in their marriage. Their faith and willingness to join the church amidst opposition has been a strength and blessing in my life. Although I did grow up in the church, I've recently realized that I need to build my own testimony of the Gospel. So I've been working towards strengthening my own personal testimony. Through prayer (lots and lots of prayer) and scripture study, attending church and really pondering the words of Christ, I've come to know that God lives! His Son, Jesus Christ, also lives. They love us so much and They hear our prayers. I know the Book of Mormon is an honest and true account that goes hand in hand with the Bible to clarify doctrine and that the prophets in the Book of Mormon bear witness of Jesus Christ just like the prophets of old. I know The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is Christ's true church restored on the earth today by Joseph Smith. Because of his faith and perseverance, I am blessed to have Christ's Gospel in my life.

How I live my faith

Although I do not have any active roles within the church as of now, in the past, I've been involved in serving the women of the church by planning meetings and get-togethers, lending a helping hand when someone was sick, and making sure that these women- who were often away from their families- received a treat on their birthdays. Although many of these acts were small and simple, I felt great as I interacted with and recognized these women as valuable daughters of God.
