Hi I'm Berk

I work in software marketing. I like to play guitar and sing, travel, spend time with my family, and I am a Mormon.

About Me

I was born in Eastern Canada, and my parents converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints when I was a child. I grew up in the Church, and moved to the United States as a teenager. I work for a software company as a product manager, and my job takes me on quite a bit of travel around the United States and to many foreign countries. While I do enjoy the travel and the people I meet, I greatly miss my wife and 5 children when I'm gone. They are the greatest blessing in my life. In college, I participated extensively in music, including playing guitar in a bluegrass band, singing in choirs and even had some leading roles in opera productions. I still love music a lot, although my involvement is quite a bit more casual now than it used to be. I love to spend time with my family, and quite a bit of my time when I'm home is having family activities, helping the kids with homework, helping with music lessons, going to sports and music activities, and once in a while we even get to take a vacation!

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I have a strong testimony of the Book of Mormon and the Prophet Joseph Smith. When I was 18, I was reading the Book of Mormon all the way through for the first time, and was very moved by the stories and testimonies in it, especially the section where Jesus Christ visited the people of the ancient Americas and blessed and healed them. I prayed to Heavenly Father in deep sincerity so that I could receive a strong testimony of the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon. I received a strong witness of its truthfulness, a feeling that has been confirmed many times over. I served a two-year mission for the Church to West Virginia, and greatly loved teaching the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ to people in the states of West Virginia, Ohio and Kentucky. I am deeply grateful for the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, and for His atonement which makes it possible for me to be forgiven of my sins, and for my family and I to return to Heavenly Father's presence after this life. We believe that families can be joined for eternity, and this gives me a great deal of joy to know that my wife and children will be with me forever.

How I live my faith

Within my local Latter Day Saint congregation, I currently work with the youth in scouting. Boy Scouts is a great organization that teaches young men good principles and integrity, and also teaches them to set and and achieve goals, and helps them learn outdoor and life skills. Four of my five kids are boys, so this is something I'm very happy to help with! I have also been a teacher of the adults and youth, have served in the leadership of the local congregation (Ward), and participate in lots of the Ward's many social activities. Each month, I try to visit several families that have been assigned to me so that I can make sure that they are healthy and doing okay. This is a Church program called home-teaching, and helps to strengthen a feeling of community and sometimes we're able to help those who may need help of some kind or who are feeling lonely. My wife and I have many friends in and out of the Church, as do our children. Our house is typically a buzz of activity, and our children frequently have friends over, both in and out of our faith.
