Hi I'm John
I helped clean up after hurricane Katrina.
About Me
I am the lucky husband of a beautiful wife and father of a precious baby girl. My wife is a lovely person who I admire very much. We like taking walks with our daughter on trails and seeing nature. Classic novels and board games are some interests we have together. I also like to be silly and make my wife and daughter laugh. I've run a few 5k's. I'm about to start graduate school for geospatial information science.
Why I am a Mormon
Some time ago before I had a family of my own I wondered how I could live to be able to raise a happy family. I wanted to learn how to make better decisions and enjoy more happiness in my own life. I believed in God and sought his help. I prayed asking for his help to make me a stronger person so I could have a happy and successful family. I told him that whatever he wanted me to do I would do. I saw a commercial for a free Bible on TV so I called asking for my own free copy. Not long after two full time missionaries delivered the Bible and shared a message about families and the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. It felt familiar to me and I felt as if I had heard it all before. When they invited me to attend their church meetings and read the Book of Mormon I accepted. All the things I learned and experienced were refreshing and I found out for myself that what the missionaries taught was in answer to my prayer. I felt that I should accept their invitation to be baptized. I know with all my heart that striving for a strong family is our purpose here on earth. If we follow God's will and His restored gospel we may even continue as a family after this life. Despite mistakes and challenges I trust that through Jesus Christ I can become the father and husband He wants me to become. I know that with His help it is possible.
How I live my faith
I enjoy serving in the church. I am responsible for keeping the membership and financial records of the ward I attend. Whenever people move into our area I make sure their address is correct, that we have sufficient funds for activities and items we need, and I report to our local leaders on our attendance. From time to time I help our lay ministers in the responsibilities they have. I'm grateful for this opportunity to learn about the members and grow from their examples.
