Hi I'm Jessica Lynn

I'm a farm girl. I'm almost a college graduate, and I want to learn Portuguese. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am currently a typical college student juggling school and work while trying to have some fun along the way. I grew up in a small farming community and love everything about small town life. I love sports, playing the piano, and spending time with my family and friends.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents are Mormon and dilligently took me to church every Sunday and taught me good values and principles at home. When I was about 13 or 14 years old, I was faced with a lot of decisions. Many of those decisions involved going against what my parents had taught me. When I discovered that the reason I made the decisions I did was because they were the decisions that made me happy and were not based on what I thought my parents would think, I realized that I also believed in those same principles and values.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by trying everyday to be more like Jesus Christ. I read and study about His life in the Book of Mormon and the Bible and try to emulate the example He has given us. I try to notice those around me and their needs. I try to help when I can.

What is the Atonement of Jesus Christ? Why was it necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice His life?

Jessica Lynn
Jesus Christ's suffering in the garden of Gethsemane, his suffering and death on the cross, and his resurrection are all part of the Atonement of Jesus Christ. The Atonement is Christ's sacrifice for us. Because we are not perfect and we all make mistakes, it was necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice His life so that we have the chance to to repent or be made clean from our sins and the wrong things we have done in our lives. The guilt and pain we feel can be erased as we are forgiven. Forgiveness is only possible because Christ paid the price for our sins. A scripture in the Book of Mormon helps me better understand what Christ suffered and how he can help me. It is found in Alma 7:11-13: And he shall go forth, suffering pains and afflictions and temptations of every kind; and this that the word might be fulfilled which saith he will take upon him the pains and the sicknesses of his people. And he will take upon him death, that he may loose the bands of death which bind his people; and he will take upon him their infirmities, that his bowels may be filled with mercy, according to the flesh, that he may know according to the flesh how to succor his people according to their infirmities. Now the Spirit knoweth all things; nevertheless the Son of God suffereth according to the flesh that he might take upon him the sins of his people, that he might blot out their transgressions according to the power of his deliverance; and now behold, this is the testimony which is in me. For me this scriptures helps me understand that Christ felt all of my pain - he understands me, and because he has felt all of it, He knows how to succor, or help, me overcome my pain, whatever it might be. His sacrifice has made it possible for me to move forward even though I have made mistakes. The Atonement allows all of us to overcome our weaknesses and become better people everyday if we have the desire and are willing to follow Christ and His teachings. Show more Show less
