Hi I'm Mark

I'm a software engineer, a father of six, a homeschool helper, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love using technology to solve problems and help people. I have six kids and a wonderful wife who amazingly home-schools all of the kids. I enjoy hiking and vacationing as a family. Having two green thumbs I relish gardening. I am learning to play the organ for my congregation. And I run five miles three times a week to keep old age at bay.

Why I am a Mormon

Although I was born a Mormon that didn't mean that I had to stay a Mormon. I have stayed active in the Mormon faith throughout my life even serving a mission in Japan. But some time in my mid twenties I was asked if I would stay a Mormon even if my parents didn't. And I thought hard about that. And I concluded that yes, I would. It was my faith, my peace, my strength, and my way of life. Yes I was born with it. But somewhere along the way, because of the fulfillment and peace of mind that it brought me, I chose it.

How I live my faith

My day starts at 550 each morning. I start by practicing hymns on the organ so that one Sunday each month I can play the music for my congregation. The organ is really the first instrument that I've attempted seriously so it has been a wonderful challenge. In addition, I spend several hours each week discussing with other brothers the needs of families in our area and visiting them to share a message, strengthen friendships, and see how we can help. As a family we strive daily to read stories from the scriptures together and then play a game to see who remembers what was read. With ages all over the map that gets chaotic at times and I wonder if anything is sinking in. And when I least expect it one of the kids will say something that reminds me that, yes, they good hearts and they are getting it.

Why are only some Mormons allowed into temples? Is there something secret going on in Mormon Temples? What goes on in Mormon Temples?

Mark
Temples are meant to be houses of the Lord and hence are supposed to be sacred meaning that I should only enter them if I feel the I truly am doing all that I can to be pure and clean before God. There are a number of ceremonies that are performed in temples and opportunity during each to be taught. All are performed for me once in my life as a living individual and thereafter can be performed for me as a stand-in for one of my ancestors. As such, to me these ceremonies really have a dual purpose, to help my ancestors receive ordinances who did not have such opportunity during their lifetimes like baptism and eternal marriage. But the second purpose is to regularly remind me of God's love, His principles, and the promises that I have made to Him and He has made to me if I strive to live as a disciple of Jesus.
