Hi I'm Laura Marie

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I live on a ranch with my husband. I am a wife, mother and grandmother. I love to garden, rides horses, collect eggs from my chickens, cook, sew, write in my daily journal, read all sorts of books and study the scriptures. I enjoy traveling to the places my children live and visiting my grandchildren. I enjoy my calling as a service missionary in the area of employment, my husband and I serve together. I also enjoy being a visiting teacher, my partner and I visit three women each month, sharing an uplifting message, and offer our friendship. I care about my community, and have served as a city counsel woman. I belong to a women's club that donates time to the local library and museum.

Why I am a Mormon

My family joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints when I was 9 years old when the "Mormon" missionaries came to our home to teach us the gospel. I still remember Elders coming to our home, with their flannel board to teach us truths. I loved getting on my bicycle and following them on their bikes. Later I discovered that I came from pioneer heritage as I did my family history, learning that my family came across the plains with the Martin Handcart Company.

How I live my faith

I live my faith day by day and hour by hour as I see Heavenly Father's hand in my life. When I work in my flower and vegetable garden, I feel my Savior's love for me in his beautiful creations. I take time each day to thank my heavenly father for a sunset, beautiful clouds, rain, trees and other lovely creations. I am very thankful for my family and loved ones. During my mother's terminal illness, I found comfort and strength as I cared for her, especially from the hymns of the gospel which I played on her compact disc player in her home. I love serving in the church as an employment missionary, visiting teacher and substitute Sunday school teacher.

What is the Mormon lifestyle like? How do Mormons live?

Laura Marie
I enjoy living the "Mormon" lifestyle, by having a clean and wholesome life. I don't smoke, drink alcohol, tea or coffee; as a result, I have been able to avoid the pitfall of addiction and enjoyed good health and energy. Sometimes my friends ask me what I do to stay young and healthy looking. I share with them the spiritual and health benefits of living the principles taught in the church I love. Show more Show less

What are Mormon church services like? Are visitors allowed at church meetings? Can I attend church?

Laura Marie
Sunday church meetings: Sacrament Meeting, Sunday School, Relief Society, Priesthood Meeting, Primary and Young Women Meetings, where there are friendly people, religious music, prayers, inspired presentations by teachers, and the Sacrament administered are the highlight of my week. I find rest, inspiration, fellowship and strength to meet the challenges of the following week. Show more Show less

What does Mormonism teach regarding baptism?

Laura Marie
Mormonism teaches that a person must be at least 8 years old to be baptized. My parents and I were introduced to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints when I was 9 years old, and I was baptized after being taught the basic principles of the church by missionaries and after my parents asked me if I would like to be baptized. My brother who was 12 was baptized the same day at I, my parents were baptized a couple of weeks before us. Show more Show less

What will the Mormon missionaries talk about when they visit my home?

Laura Marie
The missionaries will talk about how you can find peace in the world. They will teach you about a living prophet who gives guidance during these difficult times in the world. The truths about becoming an eternal family will be taught, and the beautiful blessings of the temple. The missionaries will help you discover the wonders of the Book of Mormon, another Testament of Jesus Christ, a record of the ancient people who lives on the American continent. What is the Book of Mormon?

Laura Marie
The Book of Mormon is ancient scripture, a record of the the people who lived on the American continent many years ago. It teaches us about Jesus Christ and how he loved the people who lived on the American continent. When I prayerfully study the Book of Mormon, I feel the truthfulness of it. As I ponder on the scriptures in the Book of Mormon, questions and problems in my life seem to be put in perspective and I receive new hope direction. Show more Show less

How can we come to know our Father in Heaven?

Laura Marie
I have come to know our Heavenly Father throughout my life. I know my prayers to my Heavenly Father will always be answered sooner or later. When I prayerfully study the scriptures and listen to the still small voice that speaks to my heart and live the commandments the best I can, I feel close to my Heavenly Father and Savior, and feel happy in my life.
