Hi I'm Sam

I'm a demographer who loves my family. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Somehow I was able to marry the girl of my dreams and we have been blessed with two beautiful daughters. There's nothing I enjoy more in life than spending time with my family, especially singing songs and dancing with my girls. When I have to be away from my family to earn a living, I am a demographer, family scholar and policy analyst. I have always been a bit of a math geek so I spend much of my time crunching numbers and estimating statistics. Though this may seem boring to some, it gives me a chance to study people all over the world and I love it! The world is a big place and there are fascinating people everywhere. I love finding trends in the data and making projections for the future.

Why I am a Mormon

For me it really comes down to two things: family and peace. I love my wife and my family and I want to be with them forever. The Mormon church teaches that Christ makes it possible for families to be together even after death and I truly believe this. The gospel of Jesus Christ has also brought great peace to my life. Life can be fairly hectic and chaotic, but knowing that Jesus Christ has promised to make it all better gives me hope for me--a sinner--and for my family--the people that are most precious to me. Everyday I am grateful for the grace that God has shown to me and to all of his children throughout the world. I firmly believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and the Savior and Redeemer of the world. I also believe that He loves all of the people of the world so much that he laid down His life for them so that they can return to be with Him. I also believe that this is His Church. All of these things bring peace to my heart.

How I live my faith

For the most part I just try to be a good friend. Life can be stressful and challenging and throughout my life I have benefited greatly from the thoughtful words of caring friends and loving family or even the kind actions of strangers. With the responsibilities I have been given in our congregation, I find that I spend a lot of time just trying in my own imperfect ways to share with others the perfect love that Christ has for them. I try to teach my children to do the same.

How can faith in Jesus Christ influence us in our marriages and family relationships? in our friendships?

Sam
Jesus Christ makes it possible for all of us to overcome sin and He teaches us how to be loving and forgiving to our family members and neighbors. Basically, he taught us how to love one another and we have the promise in the Epistle of John that, "If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us." We can trust that as we strive to love our family members and neighbors as Christ taught, then by His grace, His love will grow within us. In other words, as we love one another, He helps us to get even better at it. What a fantastic promise! Show more Show less

To what do you attribute the growth of the Church?

Sam
As a demographer, this is an interesting question. The easy answer would be that it is a result of all of those large Mormon families. However, each year those who "convert" to Mormonism from another faith or belief system outnumber those who are "born into" the religion by more than two to one--at least according to Church statistical reports. Though I can't speak for the hundreds of thousands throughout the world who join the Church each year, I know that I myself am continually attracted by the message of hope that the Church offers.
