Hi I'm Mark

About Me

I'm a fourth-generation Mormon, raised in Idaho, and married to a convert to the church from California. We have four children, three of which are married with two or more children. I have a master's degree in computer science, and I retired after 23 years in the telecommunications industry. Now I do handyman work, including on two apartment buildings I own. I play basketball twice a week, and I like to walk or ride bicycles with my wife. We also love to visit our children and grandchildren.

Why I am a Mormon

While I was born and raised in the church, I have come to realize that I am happiest when I am trying to be like Jesus, serving Heavenly Father's children. It helps me a lot to know where we came from, why we are on the earth, and where we go after this life. It helps me to listen to and hearken to the words of a prophet who speaks with God. It helps a lot to know that God is a benevolent, loving being who knows me individually and wants to bless me, who wants me to live in such a way as to return to His presence. This is what I am striving to do.

How I live my faith

I help plan and implement activities for a geographic area in the church known as a stake. I also visit several individuals in that stake on a regular basis to assure that things are well with them. I pray and read scriptures every day. I attend church every week, and several activities and meetings during the week. I teach my children and grandchildren the importance of families and of fidelity and devotion to their spouse. I also serve two days each month in the temple. We laugh a lot and express gratitude a lot.

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Did the children of Israel worship Moses? No, but they revered him as their leader because he spoke and acted with authority from God on their behalf. We feel the same way about Joseph Smith, the Lord's prophet through whom the church was re-established in this age. Proper priesthood authority, lost from the earth anciently, was restored, as was much more scripture, all through the prophet Joseph Smith. There has been an unbroken succession of such godly, empowered men since his time until today. Show more Show less
