Hi I'm Shannyn Marie

About Me

Hi! I'm a Native American & German 23-year-old from Arizona. I was raised by my wonderful grandparents, and because of their great influence, I've tried my best to be as compassionate, loving, understanding, honest, and intelligent as possible. I have so many interests, that I find it very difficult to decide what to study in college and what will be the most beneficial for me and my future family. However, I found that having variety in life is what makes me happy and interesting! I love singing, drawing, painting, decorating, astronomy, mathematics, geology, and serving others. I've been very blessed with these talents and interests and I'm eager to find out what other skills I can develop! I'm also engaged to a wonderful young man and we are getting married for all time and eternity. I'm very excited to start my life with him!

Why I am a Mormon

I didn't question my beliefs until a friend passed away in high school. At the time, religion had no place in my life and I didn't want anything to do with it. I had a scientific and mathematical mind, and God didn't make sense to me. However, after I lost my friend in high school, I began to question the meaning of life, trying to disregard God in the situation, but it was difficult for me to believe that I would never see her again. Shortly after this incident, while on a show choir trip in Hawaii, I saw a beautiful white building on the island of Oahu and it happened to be an LDS temple. Being intrigued by its beauty, I decided to go to the visitor's center with my choir director and a few other choir members to check it out. I don't recall the video I watched, but I remember wanting to know more about the church, keeping my deceased friend in mind. After a few short weeks, a couple of LDS (Mormon) missionaries showed up on my doorstep. They taught me how families can be together forever. Eight months later, after learning how to pray, and exercising faith in God, I came to realize that what they were sharing with me was true. I knew that I would see my friend again, and I also knew that God loved me. I have a Heavenly Father who knows me better than I know myself because I'm his daughter. We all have the opportunity to ask in faith about the truth of anything we want to know. He will answer you. I'm thankful for my family and for those missionaries who taught me. I'm also thankful for the many blessings I've been given, as well as the trials that arise from time to time. If I didn't have any difficult situations to deal with, I wouldn't have learned from those experiences and I would definitely not be as patient and understanding as I am today. I love the idea of having an eternal family someday and I'm thankful that I had the opportunity to ask my Heavenly Father for His approval in my decision in marrying my best friend. Being a faithful "Mormon" has helped me to become the wife that I want to be. Knowing that I'm worthy of such an amazing man of God, who will be the father of our children, gives me so much comfort. No matter what happens out there in the world, with the love of my family and of Heavenly Father, I know that I'll be just fine.

How I live my faith

I serve others who go to the same church meetings as I do, mostly by sharing my musical talents. Not only do I sing occasionally in our sacrament meetings, but I also direct the choir! I love it because the songs we sing constantly remind me about our Savior and how I want to be more like him in every aspect of my life. I also have the wonderful opportunity to visit with my friends who live nearby and to see how I can bless their lives. You never know how much this can mean to someone! :)

What is being a Mormon like?

Shannyn Marie
It's like being a part of a large family who cares for one another. There's so many people from different backgrounds and situations with diverse talents, but we are all unified in our morals and beliefs. Show more Show less

How can we come to know our Father in Heaven?

Shannyn Marie
Talk to Him. Pray to Him. He wants you to tell Him about your day with your triumphs and challenges. List off all the things you are thankful for (this may include your family, your job, the beautiful weather, a special friend, clean water, your beautiful country, etc). Once you realize how blessed you are, you soon come to know that those blessings and talents are from your Heavenly Father. Also, reading the scriptures will give you accounts on how Heavenly Father interacts with His children. His love is evident, even through very difficult times when righteous people suffer through trials. Show more Show less
