Hi I'm David

About Me

I'm just an ordinary man who loves my sweet wife and family and my old, rusty 1988 truck. I am a teacher. I enjoy playing games w/ the family, playing with legos, reading, walking in the morning before work. As I walk, I enjoy listening to the scriptures, the living prophets and lessons on my mp3 player - and I enjoy music that has a good beat. I have a small garden and am trying to see if I can grow potatoes this year. If I were to die tomorrow, I would hope that I had eaten plenty of dark chocolate the day before my demise.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents were mormons - but let me tell you why I have chosen to continue to nurture the seeds of faith they shared with me in my youth. When I was 15 years old, I wanted greater assurance that Jesus is the Christ, that The Book of Mormon is scripture and that Joseph Smith was visited by Heavenly Father and His Son in 1820. I started reading the Book of Mormon and praying its truthfullness - but it seemed like the Heavens were closed. I wasn't getting a huge answer from the Lord. But I kept reading, pondering and praying. Looking back, I was expecting a large "witness" from the Lord. I didn't fully realize then that the Holy Ghost testifies of truth in many different ways. Especially like the Apostle Paul says that the fruits of the Spirit are love, peace, joy etc. I had indeed felt these things throughout my life in regards to the questions I was seeking. Nevertheless, after many months of study, I was reading in 3 Nephi 17 while leaning back on my chair (like teenage boys do) waiting for our youth Sunday school class ot start. As I read, I felt a peace in my heart that was different from times past. At that very moment, the thought gently settled in my mind, "It's true." It was the witness regarding the Book of Mormon I had been seeking. The very next hour in our Church meetings, a missionary shared his testomony of Jesus Christ. As he did so, the very same feelings came to my mind and heart once again. That day, I came to know that I knew that Jesus is the Christ, Father in Heaven and His Son visited Joseph Smith and called him to be a prophet and also that the Book of Mormon is the word of God.

How I live my faith

One of my favoirte moments each day is family dinner and our family scriptures study time. The other day as I was driving to work, I felt grateful my young son had prayed that "daddy would be safe." My marriage is a precious gift. I live my faith by nurturing my relationship with my wife and making sure we have weekly "date nights" and time to talk each day. I have loved the opportunities to serve in the church. At age 19, I was called to serve a 2-year mission in Brazil. I love Brazil. I have enjoyed working with my boys in scouting, teaching lessons on Sundays and some leadership callings.

Do you really believe there is a prophet like Moses alive today?

David
The Lord told that prophet Amos that he reveals his word to His servants the prophets (Amos 3:7). I believe in an unchanging God who spoke to prophets to guide his people in ancient day and who still does so today. While Father in Heaven will still personally guide and direct each one of us personally, it is a comfort to know that the Heavens are still open and He speaks to prophets to direct His work in these latter days.
