Hi I'm Leon

Am an aspiring urban planner/engineer who loves tech and the Web

About Me

I am a new media developer who is into all kinds of Internet technology. I am an active social media user, and develop social networking websites. I like to test software, so I could have an edge on the latest techniques and technologies, so I can help others interact with others using these methods. I'm also a transportation planner who is fascinated with helping my community go from point A to B in the most functional and aesthetically pleasing way.

Why I am a Mormon

Throughout my life, I always had questions about God and some of them made no sense. It seemed that God didn't like the human race since Adam and Eve ate that apple, and he wanted us to be tormented forever after we died. It was as if we were God's failed experiment. One other problem was trying to make sense of the Trinity. How can God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit be one and the same entity? The Church has answered all these questions, and assured me that all of us will inherit a Kingdom of God, and that Hell isn't what everybody pictures it to be. I have the same amount of faith in this Church being the restoration of how Jesus managed is people as I have about the existence of God and the divinity of his Son. I am also grateful that we have a priesthood that serves as a guide to what we should do these days, while still having the choice to follow it or not. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is not a new Gospel; it is the same Gospel of Jesus Christ. We are born with the tendency to act against Heavenly Father's wishes, and we accept the sacrifice and burden Jesus made in order for us to make it up to Heavenly Father, so we may progress after we have physically died.

How I live my faith

I like to use my talents to help the church by assisting our missionaries in certain tech related programs as well as accompany them during door-to-door outreach. I also participate in Family History work, not only because I like to know where my ancestors come from but also to give them a chance to enter our three levels of heaven that all of us are entitled to.

What do Mormons believe about Jesus Christ? Do Mormons believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God?

Jesus is the direct son of God The Father. He laid out how humanity will progress by giving us choice and responsibility, so that we later can own the same powers and responsibilities that Jesus has now. I also believe not only that Jesus took the brunt of God's disappointment with us, but to also experience the same pain as we do. Show more Show less

How can I know Mormonism is true?

To start, you actively listen to what LDS members believe, keeping in mind they probably aren't familiar with what you believe in. Read into the scriptures the LDS has to offer and ask God in prayer if you have any doubts about it. If you feel comfortable and agree, it becomes true to you. We believe that feeling comes from the Holy Spirit. Since all religion is based on faith, you can only verify if the Book is true to yourself. Show more Show less

What is faith?

To have faith is to hope for the truth of something you are not sure of. Based on this hope, as well as other persuading factors, you assume that what you predict will occur and work to achieve it. In the case of an employment recruiter, you tell him that you will perform a job to the boss' satisfaction. He doesn't know whether or not you will perform to this, but he has faith that you will. As a result he hires you. In the case of God, you are told that he exists, and will benefit you if you do actions that make him happy. Faith is the assumption that God exists and is able to do what you are told he will do, and the willingness to work the requirements of receiving those benefits. Show more Show less

Who was Joseph Smith?

There are a number of Joseph Smiths who are important in Latter Day Saint history, but when people talk about Joseph Smith (without middle initials or suffixes), we talk about Joseph Smith Jr. Smith is the person who set off the Latter Day Saint movement toward a restoration of the way Jesus conducted his organization. During the early 1820s, in similar fashion to Moses as well as other prophets, he began to receive visions and revelations from God and other biblical figures. He was called not only to restore the Church back to how Christ managed it during the first millennium, but to clarify biblical scripture by recovering an account of Christians who have settled on the American continents. We call this compilation The Book of Mormon. Show more Show less

Why are Mormons asked to donate 10% of their income to their Church?

The major source of revenue to operate the Church comes from God's command to give 1/10th of our income that was mentioned in Malachi 3:8-10. We use this money to make sure the water and electricity run through our buildings, as well as keeping them strong against the weather. We also use the money to publish and distribute up-to-date lessons and teachings in the best way possible. Show more Show less

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Absolutely not. Latter Day Saints see Smith as a messenger from God, in the same vein as others like Abraham and Moses. These messengers are worthy of respect, but they are not God, and aren't treated as such. Show more Show less

How can we stop the spread and influence of pornography?

The best way to do so is to reduce exposure and simply block and ignore it. Don't expose yourself to porn for pleasure, and be very careful if you are required to be exposed to it for investigative reasons. Also understand the difference between sexual health advice and pornography marketing. If you need help of a sexual nature, it's best to ask your doctor or health care provider, and/or your bishop. Depending on the laws of your country, you can also lobby your representatives to pass laws that require opt-out blocking of pornographic websites. If you are able to, you can also use mass media and the Internet to drive awareness of the harmful effects of porn. If you live in a country where freedom of expression is important to its government, you prevent the influence in your own workplace or home by using blocking services. There are many software programs and services which help, but I recommend a custom DNS resolving service such as OpenDNS. Which, when configured correctly, can automatically do the job for you; even on a local network level. Show more Show less

What is done with the tithing that Mormons pay?

The act of giving ten percent of one's income to the Church is called tithing. This is a major source of income to operate the Church. It is used to make sure local congregation and temple buildings are functional, and to build new ones when needed. This income also goes to funding the Missionary program, as well as developing and distributing teaching materials.
