Hi I'm Laura

I grew up in Texas. I joined the Church of Jesus Christ when I was 18. I'm a wife, a Mom, and a part time teacher.

About Me

I am a daughter of God, a wife to an faithful, steady (and funny!) man, a mother to three beautiful children and a part-time teacher. I am dramatic, loving, fierecly loyal. I am talkative, emotional and passionate. I follow politics and am a news junkie! I love to read... anything, but mostly news, research about family life and child development and young adult fiction. Yeah, I know those don't mix. I love to run... but only in good weather. If it's quiet, I sing. I LOVE to sing. I love musical theatre and want to go back and be in a show when my kids are in school. I love ice cream, having a clean house and playing games with my kids!

Why I am a Mormon

I joined this Church when I was 18. I'm a Mormon because I know the gospel is true and my heart is so changed for the better by the gospel. When I was 16, I seemed to have Mormons all around me. My voice teacher, my guy friends. I had always learned that Mormons aren't Christian and you shouldn't trust them. When I started dating a Mormon, my family was concerned and gave me Anti- Mormon books and took me to an Anti Mormon Conference. In the midst of all of that, I remember telling my voice teacher that I thought she wasn't Christian. She looked me in the eye with love and said, "I don't care what else you think about me, but I Know that Jesus Christ is my Savior." I will never forget the look on her face, the feeling of the Holy Spirit in that room. I asked her for a Book of Mormon. Long story short, I finally put the Anti Literature away and read the Book of Mormon and prayed. I was in my dorm room at Baylor University, and I felt the Holy Spirit so strongly in my heart; I knew it. The Book of Mormon is the word of God. I called the missionaries and went through a very thorough set of discussions. I had heard so many lies about the Church; they were so patient and walked through each one. One of the missionaries asked me to pray about whether or not I should be baptized. 4 days later, I was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ. 19 months later, I was married in the temple and 15 years later, I am living a life that is more joyous than I ever thought I deserved.

How I live my faith

I live my faith every day by teaching my children, reading scriptures as a family...we have family prayer and try to follow Christ's example in how we treat others. We hold regular Family Home Evenings, which is a recommendation from our Prophet. It's not perfect; sometimes we have a spiritual lesson and activity, and sometimes it's a walk to the park together. But we are together. I strive to be kind to those around me, to love them as Jesus would. I definitely need to work on it, but every day His grace helps me to be a little better. At church, I currently serve as a Ward Missionary. It is sucha fun blessing to get out and meet people in the area, to support members in their missionary efforts, to teach the gospel to others and share my testimony of the Savior. My husband and I teach our children that Jesus loves everyone, no matter what. We teach them that Jesus is the only way to real happiness in this life and in the world to come. I think the gospel helps us to be better parents... it's hard and we certainly aren't perfect, but we try every day to be a little better. Knowing that our family is forever helps us to focus more on our relationships with Jesus and eachother than we focus on careers or stuff or school, even. I truly believe that "no other success in life can compensate for failure in the home".
