Hi I'm Mike Martines

I grew up all over the world. I love being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints

About Me

I am the husband of a loving, kind, sincere, and faithful woman. I am the father of 5 energetic and inquisitive children. I love science, history, all kinds of art, the natural world, and playing sports. I believe that God communicates with His children through many means and when we respond to the creative urge, our souls are responding to His calls to join with Him in sharing His love in some way. I see many different symbols in the world that can teach me something about my Father in Heaven.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the church, but was converted to the church before I decided to serve a 2 year mission. I read the Book of Mormon and felt a very warm, special feeling, it made me feel patient, more kind, more forgiving, more clean. It didn't and doesn't replace the Bible, but enriches it. The Book of Mormon just adds more to my understanding of The Lord and His Plan of Happiness. It is wonderful to me to know for certain that God does live and still speaks and leads His people like He did in ancient times through Prophets and Apostles who are authorized to speak in His name and conduct His work to bring about the Salvation of mankind. I am a Mormon because I feel deep love and respect for the Lord Jesus Christ and have found my love and respect for Him, my Family, and other people to grow ever deeper the longer I serve and live according to the teachings of the Church.

How I live my faith

I am currently serving as a lay leader in my congregation known as a Bishop. The usual period of service is 5 years and I have been serving for 1 1/2 years. I am working to establish an Interfaith Council in the county where I live because I believe it is important to learn to serve with others who are not of my faith and learn to understand and accept them and let them know that they are loved. I am, of course, deeply committed to my faith, but recognize that God is the Father of all people and loves all people regardless of their faith or lack of faith. I rely on the Hope of Israel, the Rock of Salvation, my Redeemer and Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ to help me in my responsibilities. I have experienced His help in terms of His love filling my heart and causing negative feelings to vanish away. My greatest desire is to continually learn of Him, learn to serve Him and love Him.
