Hi I'm Tom

I was born in Ireland and raised in Scotland and Canada. I taught college history for twenty-three years. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

At age sixteen I dropped out of high school and worked full-time for two years. At eighteen I joined the LDS Church and my whole life changed. I completed high school, served a mission, got married, ran a tour business in the Canadian Rockies and sold insurance. When I was twenty-nine, my wife, daughter and I pulled up stakes and headed to Utah to attend university. There I obtained a BA in History from Brigham Young University and an MA from Utah State University. By the time I finished school we had three more children. We returned to Canada where I taught college history for many years and we had two more children. After my wife died of cancer I returned to BYU on a sabbatical and began writing my first novel which was published ten years later. Since then five more of my novels have been published, along with several short stories. Eventually I re-married and my new wife and I spend our time collaborating on writing projects, visiting grandchildren and serving in the church.

Why I am a Mormon

At seventeen, while living in Toronto, Canada, I had a dream. I saw the Canadian Rockies in all their splendor and knew I had to go there. Shortly after my eighteenth birthday I headed west and got a summer job at Lake Louise, Alberta. There I met a BYU student who introduced me to the restored gospel. Eventually I met with the LDS missionaries back in Toronto and, through study and prayer, gained a testimony that they taught the truth. A whole new world opened up to me as I dedicated my life to the restored gospel of Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

From the time I was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, I have been actively engaged in its programs and have tried to live up to the Thirteenth Article of Faith which in part states that we should be "...honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous...(and do) good to all men...if there is anything virtuous, lovely, praiseworthy or of good report, we seek after these things." I have had many callings in the church and am currently serving as a branch president. After I complete this service, my wife and I would like to go on a mission together.
