Hi I'm Rhett

I'm a proud papa, a healthcare professional, a world traveler, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My favorite thing in life is travel. For me, there is nothing like studying the history of a foreign country then visiting it. I love the sights, the sounds, and most of the smells of being abroad. I enjoy photography, rock-climbing, theater, and museums of all kinds. I'm a Spanish speaker that never says "no" to good Mexican food! I'm a university admissions recruiter. And I'm a Mormon.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because of the happiness I've found, living the standards and values taught in the gospel of Jesus Christ. I haven't always followed the teachings of the scriptures; but, I've been strengthened with a greater ability to deal with life's challenges, as I have chosen to read the scriptures daily, learn all I can from church services, and follow the words of living prophets as best I can. The Christ's teachings help me find comfort when I feel alone or overwhelmed. They give me purpose when life seems monotonous or uncertain. I was raised in the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, but didn't start truly implementing all its teachings into my life until I was 18 years old. Living the gospel has changed my character and transformed my outlook on life. I am happier in hard times and optimistic amid opposition.

How I live my faith

I was recently asked by my church leaders to take a new position within my congregation. I am now in charge of overseeing the men of our congregation. It is a challenging task to constantly worry about one more to-do; however, it has been a wonderful growing experience for me. I love getting to see little miracles happen within our organization. It has helped me to think more about the needs of others and to reach out, even when I feel like I'm too tired. My assignment also helps me stay closer to God, because I feel to need to be an example to those men in our organization. Though this assignment is a big part of my weekly activities, it is only a small part of how I live me faith. My faith is an intrinsic part of who I am. My faith in Christ and His gospel permeates every aspect of my life. It dictates my priorities and is the single most effective motivator each day. How I feel about my family, how I make decisions, and how I find joy amid trials all stem from my faith in God and His Son, Jesus Christ.

Why are Mormons asked to donate 10% of their income to their Church?

Rhett
Everything I have in my life comes from God, even my income. It is an ancient law that we pay our tithes to the Church, and I couldn't be happier about where that money goes--it builds church houses, it pays for youth activities, it pays for education, and it constructs temples around the world. Each of those causes, and the activities therein, have changed my life forever and helped me to come closer to the Lord. I am the happy, optimistic person I've come to be because of what goes on in those church buildings, because of those youth activities, because of the causes of the Church. I am so happy that, though I'm a poor student, I get to support and spread the life-changing influence of the Church throughout the world, to help others find happiness as I have. Plus, the Lord seems to bless me even more as I pay my tithing--and who doesn't want more blessings?! Show more Show less
