Hi I'm Spencer

I am a husband and father. I grew up in North Dakota. I love gardening, bicycling, camping, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My family includes my beautiful wife and our 2 daughters. We enjoy spending time together outdoors. I served a 2 year mission for the church in the Washington DC/Maryland area. My degree is in Civil Engineering. I work in the transportation safety field.

Why I am a Mormon

The gospel of Jesus Christ is a part of my life, not just a church to go to on Sundays. I grew up as a member of the Church, but I had to develop a personal testimony of the gospel. I had many good examples when I was younger. My parents had the greatest influence on me. They taught me about the restored church of Jesus Christ and I felt that the meesage we true. As a missionary I read the Book of Mormon many times and developed a love for it. I have seen how it has changed others lives. As I read the Book of Mormon now I continue be influenced by it. I know that it is a book of scripture written for us today. I continue to find answers from it. I have felt the love of our Savior every day. As I try to live as He wants me to, I am bleesed. The hard part is recognizing all the blessings I am receiving. We know that our Savior has given our family everything and we know He will help us if we do our part.

How I live my faith

My wife and I want our children to become the best they can. We realize we must be good examples to them. We are teaching them while they are young about daily prayer and scripture study. These things help us strengthen our testimony of Jesus Christ. We know that through our Savior we will be happy so we try to follow His example. Our girls see pictures of Jesus Christ and they recognize Him, they know He will help them. My faith is strengthened as I attend church every week. As I take the Sacrement I recommit myself to living the gospel for the next week. As I am faced with choices during the week I am reminded of the covenants I have made to follow Jesus Christ. This makes it easier to make the right choices.

What is the purpose of the welfare services of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?

If the world could copy the welfare program of the church it would be a different place. The idea with the welfare program is to teach people how to help themselves. If there is a natural disaster we are not expected to rely on the government, instead help ourselves. We are taught to have a 3 day supply of food, clothing and other basic items. If our house is burning down or a flood is coming we can just grab our bags and head out the door. That is just one part of the welfare program. If we are prepared we can help others when needed.
