Hi I'm Cheryl

I'm a convert to the church who was raised in southern California and who now lives in Albuquerque, NM...I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I've been married for 30 years and have three children. I spend my time taking care of my family and helping my community by working on issues that pertain to education. I love watching sports especially when my children are playing them!

Why I am a Mormon

Formerly Catholic--even attended Catholic School--I was introduced to the gospel of Jesus Christ by friends of the "Mormon" faith at the age of 17. I admired the love and unity in my Mormon friends' families and vowed that I would have such a family of my own some day. So here I am 34 years later...happily living as a "Mormon." :

How I live my faith

I've had many church assignments over the years. I've worked with youth and with women in my ward and have had stake callings. I currently am serving as the Albuquerque West Stake Primary President. It's been wonderful to work with the young children in my stake.

Do Mormons only help Mormons?

Cheryl
Each month, members of our church abstain from food or drink for 24 hours. We donate the money we would have spent on those meals to a fund that blesses the lives of many throughout the world. Many times, our money and resources go to help those in the world suffering through some type of of disaster. We, as Mormons, are known to take care of each other in times of need and definitely take care of people who are not of our faith. The desire to serve is second nature to a lot of us :) Show more Show less

Can you tell me about Mormon customs: how you dress for church, what holidays you celebrate, etc.?

Cheryl
Members attending Sunday services will most likely be wearing their “Sunday best,” which may include suits, sport coats, and ties for the men and modest dresses or skirts for the women. Children also typically dress up for Sunday. My family celebrates all holidays! One of my favorite holidays is Thanksgiving! I love Thanksgiving because it hasn't been commercialized with the gift giving attributed to most other holidays. Thanksgiving is a time when friends and family gather to eat delicious food while sharing feelings of gratitude for the blessings we have all received from our Heavenly Father. There are many fun ways to express gratitude: 1. Go around the Thanksgiving table and ask everyone to name one thing they are thankful for. 2. Distribute paper and pens and have family and friends write down something they are thankful for (without attaching their name). Put the papers into a bowl (or something Thanksgiving-y like a cornucopia) and have someone read them out loud. Guests then try to guess who wrote it! 3. Have guests write something they are grateful for on a fabric tablecloth or in a "gratitude" book. 4. Provide stationary, pens, and stamps for your guests. Encourage them to write a thank you note to someone who has done something to help them during the year. 5. Finally, express your thankfulness by serving others. Take a home-baked pie to a neighbor. Donate food to a homeless shelter. Rake leaves for a widow. Show more Show less
