Hi I'm Daniel

About Me

I am a single guy who just recently finished graduate school with a Master of Public Administration (MPA). I hope to work with non-profit organizations to help the world be a better place. I love to travel and learn about new cultures and people because I feel it helps me to better understand those around me. I have lived in Peru, Israel, and China and visited seven other countries. I in particular enjoy learning about world religions. I feel that the world has much to offer, and that "Mormons" don't have the monopoly on good people. I also enjoy singing, playing the piano, writing music, and doing film. I have worked on several documentaries and enjoy them because I can learn more about people and what makes them tick.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born to both Mormon parents, yet this is not why I am a Mormon. I am Mormon because I have found great joy in the message of the teachings of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I have learned about many religions over the years and have attended on more than one occasion meetings of Quakers, Methodists, Muslims, Jewish, Catholics, Born-agains, and Hindus. I love the teachings of many of these religions and celebrate many of the holy days associated with them (I love Passover, Sukkot, Holy Week, and Ramadan in particular). Yet in all the religions I have learned about, none brings the clarity and perspective that Mormonism brings. No other religion teaches so clearly why we are here, where we came from, and where we are going after this life. No religion teaches about and helps me better understand Jesus Christ. Many churches teach about Christ, and I love what they teach about Christ, and to be honest, I think we could learn a bit from them. But, the fact remains, I feel I personally know the Savior because of what I have learned. The Book of Mormon teaches more clearly about the purpose of the Savior than any other book. The New Testament teaches of Christ's life, while the Book of Mormon more fully teaches of why He lived. I have often asked whether the Church is true or not. When I think about it, I think of what I would have to take away from my knowledge of the Savior and His mission. The answer is always the same: I know the Church is true, I know the Book of Mormon is true, because what it teaches me about the Savior, Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

One of my favorite things to do is to study how the Lord lived His life. How did He have charity, patience, humility, etc. Our Church teaches that the Father does not teach us these just to limit us, but to help us have the joy He has. He, Himself, obeys the very commandments He has given us. If you want to know why we should serve others, study why Christ served others. If you want to know why we should be patient with others, look to why the Lord is patient with us. In this process of searching to know the Savior, I have found that it is through the scriptures, both the Bible and the Book of Mormon that I am able to better know the Him. If I took away either book, I would not know the Lord and Master for who He really is; a loving, caring, patient, and perfect being. I love the Savior and have felt His love many times. I know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is true, and that the Lord leads His Church through His prophet, just as He did in days of old.
