Hi I'm James

I am 62 years old. I am a great grandfather. I love Barbershop Quartet music. I'm a Mormon

About Me

I have been married for 20 years to my wonderful wife, whom I met at a Mormon single adult conference in 1993. We have had a lot of challenges but our Faith keeps us going in spite of the tumult of the world I have seen the world through a lot of different lenses in my life, but have found a home as a Mormon.

Why I am a Mormon

I guess the best title for my story why I am a Mormon would be"LSD to LDS- a convert's story". I was raised in a protestant church, but like many of my generation, I became disillusioned with with the differences between what was taught and what was lived. During the years following college, and while traveling from commune to commune, I studied other religions to try to find my place in the world. During one LSD trip. I thought The Beatles were right," All you need is Love!" But all that was just a drug, and temporary. What I found in this Church were real answers to all my Questions about Who I am, Why I am here on this Earth, and What happens to me after I die. I learned that I am the son of a Loving Heavenly Father, in whose image I was created, and I have a Savior named Jesus Christ who teaches me how to return to be reunited with my Father in Heaven. In the 33 years I have been a Mormon, I have had many ups and downs. I have come to learn that Life is a test, a refiner's fire to purify me to be able to go back in triumph to my Father an hear him say" Well done, Thou good and faithful servant." I have a deep and abiding Testimony that Joseph Smith was a Prophet, and that Thomas S Monson is the Prophet of God on the Earth today.

How I live my faith

I try to live my faith by not letting it be a suit I put on on Sunday and then hang in the closet until next week. I try to be kind, courteous, and honest in all my doings. I fall short of my goals to this end often, but I get up and try again to be a reflection of my Master, Jesus Christ. Shortly after I joined the Church in 1977, I served as a Missionary in Hamburg, Germany for 2 years. It's exciting to see people understand that we're just like they are, with the same hopes and fears, who have a different perspective on life that we want to share!
