Hi I'm Alex

I'm a husband, a Spanish major in college and a skateboarder. My name is Alexander and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My name is Alexander. My family and close friends call me Al. I come from a very fun and diverse family. I'm a full time husband and college student. I enjoy listening to music, playing the guitar, drawing, skateboarding, yo-yo's and hackie sacks.

Why I am a Mormon

My mother taught me Mormonism when I was a child. However, like all members of the LDS church, I had to gain a testimony for myself that the teachings are true. Through out my teenage years I went through some tough struggles that led me to contemplate seriously the existence of God and the truthfulness of what I had been taught my whole life. I decided to find out for myself. I read the Book of Mormon and felt a calming, peaceful feeling that assured me that God knew me personally and that He loved me. I began to make changes in my life that brought me closer to Him. I can now say that I know that God lives, that Jesus is the Savior of the world, and that they have restored the knowledge we need to make it back to live with them after this life through a modern-day prophet.

How I live my faith

At age 19 I gave up my own pursuits to become a volunteer missionary for the LDS church in Mexico City, Mexico. It was the greatest experience of my life. I came to love the people that I met and worked with, including the language and culture. I recently got married to the love of my life and we live in family housing at the University that we attend. We strive to live the principles of love, service to our fellow man and devotion to Christ that we are taught.

Can you tell me about Mormon customs: how you dress for church, what holidays you celebrate, etc.?

Alex
In order to venerate God, members of the LDS church attend worship services on Sundays in our "Sunday best." It doesn't have to be fancy, but rather reverent clothing. Typically women and girls wear a blouse and skirt and the men and boys wear dress shirts and ties with dress pants and shoes. Often these dress shirts are white, but they don't have to be. Members of the LDS church live in cultures and countries all across the globe! We celebrate many different holidays. In my family, Christmas, Halloween and Independence Day are two of our favorite holidays. We love spending time together and serving others on Christmas, dressing up and trick-or-treating on Halloween and lighting off fireworks on Independence Day! It is a great time to spend together as family and friends. Show more Show less
