Hi I'm Westin

I'm a consultant in the bay area of California and I believe in Christ.

About Me

I grew up in the deserts of New Mexico on the Navajo Reservation. I loved the diversity there and developed my faith in Jesus Christ there. I served a two-year mission for the LDS Church in Brazil and then returned to the U.S. to finish my college education in management information systems. I now work in the San Francisco Bay Area as a consultant.

Why I am a Mormon

I think too often people complicate the issue of whether to become a Mormon or not. For me I heard the truth of the doctrine and never looked back. It was easy to recognize how true the doctrine is and the Holy Ghost has played a significant role in my life always confirming what I have been taught about Jesus Christ and the plan our Heavenly Father has for us as His children. I think if anyone listens with an open and humble heart, willing to submit to the Father in all things, there is no way they will be able to deny the promptings of the Holy Ghost. When you hear something that is true, it touches some other part of your being that our intellectual/academic side is not accustomed to feeling. It goes beyond the textbook facts and hits the very center of our soul. It's like we've heard the words before or knew it was true before it was said. It just makes the most sense even though it may not seem so in a classroom setting. That is how I knew Jesus Christ was my Savior and that He called Joseph Smith to be a prophet and found His church today. That's how anyone can know.

How I live my faith

I think the beauty of Christ's Church is that it's an organized religion with the emphasis on the individual. When all is said and done, the most important thing is your personal relationship with the Savior Jesus Christ. It doesn't matter how many times you have gone to church in your life time or how many times you've attended the temple. What matters is how close you live to the Savior and how you serve Him. This is a vastly different concept than most large denominational religions where the focus is on the congregation. I live my faith mostly through spending one-on-one time with the Lord. I read my scriptures for a half hour every morning starting and ending with a prayer. I think about the Savior constantly throughout the day and try to meditate on His sacrifice periodically. I pray when I wake up and when I retire to bed. I pray with my wife every day. I pray for each meal. I'm constantly meditating about what the Savior would have me do and I listen for the guidance of the Holy Ghost. If the Holy Ghost tells me to do something, I try to do it immediately. I know as I become more obedient, I will be able to grow closer to the Savior and increase my faith by degrees each time.

Which of the Savior’s teachings have influenced you in your life?

Westin
I think the teaching of repentance has made the biggest impact to me. My relationship with the Savior has grown significantly as I have sought to repent of my sins and through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ been pardoned of them. I am so touched when I read the passage about the people bring the defiled woman to the Savior to stone her but the Savior rebukes the people by telling them that anyone without sin should cast the first stone. No one throws a stone. He then admonishes her to go and sin no more. I have strived to not judge others (throws stones) and to review my sins, bring them to the Lord in prayer and humility, and then go forth and sin no more. The joy I receive from doing so is unparalleled. I love my Savior Jesus Christ because He loves us so much. He wants nothing more than for each of us to utilize His great sacrifice in our lives by repenting and coming unto Him. Show more Show less
