Hi I'm Joshua

I believe that Jesus of Nazareth is the Christ.

About Me

I am married, a life-long learner, musician, writer, entrepreneur and a winner of a pinewood derby competition (not necessarily in that order). I have a pet Miniature Schnauzer named Harley. I love my mom's homemade spaghetti and my wife's...well, whatever she makes is amazing.

Why I am a Mormon

I would be agnostic if it weren't for the experiences I have had. I took the challenge and read the Book of Mormon. As I read the book I felt the Holy Spirit. I prayed and asked God, in the name of Christ, if the Book of Mormon was true and the Holy Ghost "manifest[ed] the truth of it unto me" (Moroni 10:4). I am a Mormon because I know that Jesus Christ is the shepherd of this church. The way in which my testimony came to me is very sacred and I don't talk much about it (I don't know if I could even if I wanted to), but suffice it to say that I know for myself that Jesus Christ lives, is the head of the church, and that He loves me. I take comfort in the knowledge that man didn't give that witness to me and neither can man take it away. Knowing these things didn't give me a pass on the trials of mortality. I've had lengthy periods of time where difficult trial seemed to be the norm, but the sure knowledge of the living reality and perfect love of Jesus Christ sustained me, even when God allowed me to feel alone. This I know: the Sun will come up tomorrow, even when the night seems to drag on and on. And, every trial we encounter will be for our good. Mormons are united in the awareness that we each have need of the atonement of Jesus Christ in our lives.

How I live my faith

Living my faith entails doing my best to follow Jesus Christ, and I know I need His grace to enable me. When I make bad choices, I repent and trust in Jesus Christ. I believe in Him. I love Him and try to show it by offering a helping hand. "If ye love me, keep my commandments" (John 14:15).

In whom should we have faith?

How can I know Mormonism is true?

Joshua
Learn of it, apply its doctrine in your life and see if it is not confirmed to you. A testimony comes by the Holy Ghost. I know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is truly the church of Jesus Christ. I gained my testimony by the power of the Holy Ghost. The testimony came to me during fervent prayer. I had read the Book of Mormon and applied its teachings in my life. It teaches to love one another, to serve your fellow man with love, to believe in Jesus Christ and to follow His teachings. As I did my best to apply the teachings in my life, I became aware that the actions were making me a happier man and a better man. I felt close to God. After finishing the Book of Mormon, I prayed. My testimony didn't come all at once. In my case, and we are all different, I prayed fervently several times over the course of several days. I sincerely wanted to know, and I intended to follow the teachings of the church if Gods answer was "yes, it is true." The answer came and it came softly, but powerfully. I know by the power of the Holy Ghost that the fullness of the gospel of Jesus Christ is to be found in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Show more Show less

Does The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints endorse political parties?

Joshua
No. The mormon church endorses moral values. The church does, however, encourage its members to be active in the political process and to choose candidates for office who represent their values, regardless of race, religion, or other demographic. Show more Show less

What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

Joshua
The word of wisdom is a both a commandment and a promised blessing. It prohibits the use of tobacco, alcohol, coffee and tea while promising a blessing of added spiritual power and greater physical health. It also encourages the use of healthy foods. It was first revealed as a "word of wisdom" to help protect the saints against certain ills in the last days. In the time the revelation was given our culture new little about many of the negative effects of substance abuse. How miraculous it is to me to know that in the mid-1800's, the Lord forewarned us against the use of these products. In our day our knowledge about addiction and disease caused by these products has grown dramatically. The Word of Wisdom does bring physical health benefits, but perhaps more impressive are the spiritual benefits that come from living the commandment. I am thankful that God cares about us so as to warn us so that we may know how to avoid many of the pitfalls that come upon men. Show more Show less

Who chooses the Mormon prophet?

Joshua
They are called of God, by inspiration/revelation, to serve in the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. The senior living apostle (not in age, but in the order that they were called to serve) serves as the President of the Church and is the only man that is authorized to "exercise all of the revelatory and administrative keys for the Church." Do you really believe there is a prophet like Moses alive today?

Joshua
Yes. I do. I invite you to listen to him speak. Here is what the Prophet of God has said lately: https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2013/10/i-will-not-fail-thee-nor-forsake-thee?lang=eng&cid=email-shared Show more Show less
