Hi I'm Timothy Edwin

I'm a Mormon, in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

About Me

I'm 22 years old, attending Brigham Young University in Idaho, studying accounting and finance. I was recently married in the LDS (Latter-day Saint) temple in Columbus, Ohio a couple of months ago. My favorite interests are reading, spending time with close friends and family (especially my wife!), watching movies and keeping up with current events, spending time outdoors, canoeing, camping, etc. and playing sports such as football, ultimate frisbee, basketball. I recently have become very interested in political science and analyzing the US Constitution, which we feel is a divinely inspired and endorsed document. I feel a deep appreciation to my redeemer and savior, Jesus Christ as He has enabled and strengthened me to do all things. Everything good I've done is a result of the grace given by my King and Master, Christ.

Why I am a Mormon

Why am I a Mormon? Because I feel this is the true and living kingdom of the Lord on earth. I love and worship God, my heavenly father. I adore and follow Jesus Christ, the author of salvation, the eternal son of god. I am personally convinced that it is Jesus Christ Himself, risen from the grave, that leads this church. I know He lives! I am eternally grateful to the missionaries who taught these sacred truths to my parents and baptized them as members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. My good parents converted to this church and reared myself and my three siblings into the church and taught us the Lord's principles and commandments early on in our years. I however, was a stubborn, pompous, arrogant adolescent and was slow to see truth because of my pride. I dwelled in blatant sin, but I went to the vibrant youth programs the LDS church offers to bring peace and spiritual learning to children. I one day saw the need to verify the truth of what I have been taught since I was born. So what did I do to learn if these things are true? I prayed and I studied the scriptures. For the first time in my life, I knelt down by my bedside and PLEADED with my Father in Heaven to some how, some way forgive me for all the wrongs I have done. I was 17 years of age at this time. I studied the scriptures, and I studied hard. I will never forget the peace of the Holy Spirit I felt as I read and read the Bible and Book of Mormon long into the night, and early into the morning. One night, while studying, I was led to a passage in the Old Testament that taught of the true author of the Book of Mormon. The Lord Himself! In Ezekiel, chapter 37, Ezekiel makes an inspired prophecy. He taught, "The word of the Lord came again unto me, saying, Morever, thou son of man, take thee one stick [which was what they used to write books on at the time], and write upon it, For Judah, and for the children of Israel his companions [the Jewish/Hebrew people, which is the Bible!] Then take another stick [another book] and write upon it, For Joseph [of Eqypt], the stick of Ephraim, and for all the house of Israel his companions [Lehi, the father, who began writing the Book of Mormon was directed related to this line. EZEKIEL IS TALKING ABOUT WHAT WAS TO BECOME THE BOOK OF MORMON!] And join them one to another into one stick [Bible and Book of Mormon become one set of Holy scripture] and they shall become one in thine hand [use both of them] (Ezekiel 37: 15-17). This blew my mind! I could not believe it ! The Spirit of the Lord literally led me by hand amidst my pleadings in prayer and my rigorous study to scriptures in the Holy Bible that prophesied of the Book of Mormon. The Book of Mormon, is scripture written by prophets of the Lord in the New Americas. The Bible is scripture written by prophets of the Lord in Israel and surrounding areas. To echo Ezekiel, the Old Testament prophet, the Bible and Book of Mormon truly, completely go hand-in-hand and complement and testify of EACH OTHER ! I know the Lord came down to suffer and die for us to be redeemed by following Him and He rose from the grave and leads us from the heavens. Through His spirit, we are taught and discern truth. By repenting and obeying Him, we are saved by His blood. I know the Lord, Jesus Christ leads this church via His prophet, Thomas S. Monson. I know the Lord and God came down to visit with Joseph Smith in person. The reason they did this was to prepare Joseph Smith to restore the Lord's church back on the earth and to translate the ancient record of prophets from the New Americas, the Book of Mormon. I know by the power of the Holy Ghost, which has witnessed of these sacred truths to me.

How I live my faith

I strive to patten my life after the unprecedented example of the Savior and His original apostles that walked with Him, found in the New Testament. In the New Testament, the apostle James once said, "Be ye DOERS of the word, and not hearers only" James 1:22 later in the subsequent chapter, James also said, "For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also" James 2:26. Here James teaches, essentially, "practice what you preach," to perform the doctrines the sacred scriptures we teach and to not just hear them. In one ear and out the other. He also teaches, true faith yields true works. Our christian faith is evidenced by christian works. Works being things we do! Teaching one another, helping one another, being kind to one another, being patient to one another, obeying the commandments of God, praying, studying the scriptures, going to and serving in church. These are the works the New Testament and Old Testament in the Holy Bible teach us to perform, I strive to do these things. However, at times I fall short. I am a sinner. Luckily, the Son of God condescended from His throne to come down to earth, teach us His words in the flesh, and suffered the infinite atonement. The infinite atonement allows our sins, mistakes, and imperfections to be cleansed. Only Jesus Christ could do this. "Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool...if ye be willing and obedient" Isaiah 1:18,19 in the Old Testament. There is no substitution for Obedience. When we fall short, we repent, which in the end is all we have to offer to the Lord, our will to follow Him by repenting.

In whom should we have faith?

Timothy Edwin
The Book of Mormon teaches, "Wherefore, redemption cometh in and through the Holy Messiah; for he is full of grace and truth" The Holy Messiah, Jesus Christ is to whom we are granted salvation. The Book of Mormon also teaches, "We talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ, and we write..our prophecies, that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins." I solemnly declare the Jesus Christ is the source that yields remission of sins. Show more Show less

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Timothy Edwin
We do not worship our prophet, we follow our prophet. This is because the Lord chooses them to be His messenger on earth. Paul the apostle teaches that the church is "built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone" (Ephesians 2:20). The Bible teaches the Lord chooses a prophet to lead us on earth and He directs the prophet from heaven, and this is what our church believes and is patterned after. Show more Show less
